There were 42 young horses contesting the 2018 USEA Young Event Horse (YEH) 5-year-old Championships between the East and West Coast Championships which were held in Elkton, Maryland, and Woodside, California, respectively. Following 2018’s YEH finale, many of the graduating class of the 2018 USEA Young Event Horse Championships have worked their way up through the rankings as they establish themselves as upper-level event horse prospects.
One of the most valuable awards at the Waredaca Classic Three-Day Event on October 21-23, 2022, were the prizes for the Road to the Three-Day Challenge. The Challenge started in July and ended at the Waredaca Classic in October. Novice and Training level riders had to compete in at least three of the events in the Challenge and Beginner Novice riders had to compete in at least two of the events, in addition to completing the Waredaca Classic.
The United States Eventing Association (USEA) is proud to announce that the University of New Hampshire (UNH) H.T. has recently completed their third event utilizing ShowConnect. The UNH Fall H.T., which ran on September 25, 2022, was organized by Equine Program faculty member and owner of the On The Bit Events, Liz Oertel Johnson with the help of students from the UNH Bachelor of Science in Equine Studies program.
The Dutta Corp. USEA Young Event Horse Championships came to an exciting close in October with the final championship of the calendar year held on the West Coast. After seeing some of the highest turnouts for both championships since the program's inception, four champions were crowned.
When Helen Alliston and Ebay fell on the Advanced cross-country course at the Spring Event at Woodside on May 28, 2021, everyone thought that the then 12-year-old gelding walked away without injuries. The pair had been leading their division when Ebay caught a leg on a corner jump toward the end of the course and, as a result, had a half-rotational fall, landing on his neck and partially landing on Helen. Helen was transported to Stanford University Hospital with a broken pelvis, but immediate reports after the event announced that Ebay was unharmed in the accident.
Tryon International Equestrian Center & Resort (TIEC) hosted the Dutta Corp. Tryon International Three-Day Event November 10-13 at the venue, with the USEF Eventing Young Rider Championships presented by USEA taking place at the CCI1*-L, 2*-L, and 3*-L levels. The Area V and VIII team of Jordan Riske, Janelle Fleming, Samantha Tinney, and Kit Ferguson took the win in the USEF CCI3*-L Eventing Young Rider Championship presented by USEA with a score of 163.2. Riske also finished as the CCI3*-L Young Rider Champion with a score of 45.7 riding her own 10-year-old Thoroughbred mare Redemption Song (Drewman x Orientate), in her first CCI3*-L event. Teammates Janelle Fleming on Edith Rameika’s 17-year-old Thoroughbred gelding Fly Me Courageous (Truluck x Proper Reality) and Samantha Tinney on her 15-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding Cutty Sark took second and third place with scores of 56.7 and 60.8, respectively.
Dan Kreitl (USA) and Kay Dixon’s Carmango were the winners of The Dutta Corp./USEF CCI 4*-L Eventing National Championship hosted at Tryon International Equestrian Center & Resort (TIEC), finishing on a score of 40.0. In second place the Reserve National Champion was Liz Halliday-Sharp (USA) riding Ocala Horse Properties’ Deniro Z, the 2008 Dutch Warmblood gelding (Zapatero x French Buffet XX), finishing with a score of 40.6. Completing the podium was Phillip Dutton (USA) and Anne, Caroline, and Michael Moran’s 2012 Irish Sport Horse mare Azure (Omar x Cavalier Royal) with a score of 42.6.
With the threat of stormy weather behind them, competitors at The Dutta Corp. Tryon International Three-Day Event enjoyed a calm and mild day as the cross-country and show jumping phases got underway on Saturday, November 12, 2022.
The dressage phase concluded on Friday for The Dutta Corp. USEF CCI4*-L Eventing National Championship and USEF Eventing Young Rider Championship presented by USEA (YRC). Competition at The Dutta Corp. Tryon International Three-Day Event ran under a revised schedule due to projected rainfall amounts, with the jumping and cross-country phases reorganized to ensure safe footing conditions. Dressage went ahead as planned, however, and competitors have good weather to look forward to over the next two days.
The Texas Rose H.T. held November 5-6, 2022 at the Texas Rose Horse Park in Tyler, Texas was host to the 2022 Area V Championships. The Area V Championships featured four championship divisions at the Beginner Novice, Novice, Training, and Preliminary levels, giving four lucky horse and rider pairs the chance to take their victory gallop and be crowned Area V Champions.
