AEC Qualifications

2023 USEA American Eventing Championships Qualifications

The USEA American Eventing Championship will be held at the Kentucky Horse Park and will be confined to qualified riders with qualified horses. The event will take place August 29 - September 3, 2023.

Qualifying Period: May 23, 2022 - August 15, 2023

REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS

All riders at ALL levels must be a current (Junior, Collegiate, Full, or Life) member at the time the qualifications are earned.

Horses at BN, N, and T must have at least a Limited Status registration and horses at Modified and higher must have a Full Status registration at the time qualifications are earned.

All qualifying results must be achieved at USEA/USEF recognized events. Results obtained from FEI recognized events are acceptable providing all other requirements have been met.

All qualifiers at all levels must be without cross-country jump penalties, including the completion requirements.

Both rider and horse at ALL levels must achieve the required qualifications for the division, although not necessarily as a horse/rider combination. The placing requirement (where applicable) must be achieved by the rider and the horse at the level intended for the AEC, although not necessarily as a horse/rider combination. Placing requirement earned through the USEA Amateur Upgrade Policy apply only toward the amateur divisions.

Beginner Novice Amateur Championship
Rider must have declared amateur status per USEF Rules for Eventing EV Appendix 3 1.3 and USEF GR1306.
Both rider and horse may have completed any level.

Qualifying Results (QR)

  • 1st or 2nd in any USEA recognized Beginner Novice Horse Trials (or) Beginner Novice Three-Day competition

Further to the above QR, horse and rider must have completed a total of three USEA recognized horse trials during the qualifying period. The placing requirement as noted above are included in the total of three competitions. Once the placing QR has been met, the additional H.T.s required may be at any other level.

Beginner Novice Rider Championship
Rider may not have completed competitions at Training or higher levels in the five years preceding the start of the competition.
Horse may have completed any level.

Qualifying Results

  • 1st or 2nd in any USEA recognized Beginner Novice Horse Trials (or) Beginner Novice Three-Day competition

Further to the above QR, horse and rider must have completed a total of three USEA recognized horse trials during the qualifying period. The placing requirement as noted above are included in the total of three competitions. Once the placing QR has been met, the additional H.T.s required may be at the Beginner Novice level or the Novice level.

Junior Beginner Novice Championship
Rider must be 18 or under in accordance with USEF Rules for Eventing EV104.2.
Rider may not have completed competitions at Training or higher levels in the five years preceding the start of the competition.
Horse may have completed any level.

Qualifying Results

  • 1st or 2nd in any USEA recognized Beginner Novice Horse Trials (or) Beginner Novice Three-Day competition


Further to the above QR, horse and rider must have completed a total of three USEA recognized horse trials during the qualifying period. The placing requirement as noted above are included in the total of three competitions. Once the placing QR has been met, the additional H.T.s required may be at the Beginner Novice level or the Novice level.

Beginner Novice Horse Championship
Horse may not have completed competitions at Training or higher levels.
Rider may have completed any level.

Qualifying Results

  • 1st or 2nd in any USEA recognized Beginner Novice Horse Trials (or) Beginner Novice Three-Day competition

Further to the above QR, horse and rider must have completed a total of three USEA recognized horse trials during the qualifying period. Novice Amateur Championship

Training Rider Championship
Rider may not have completed competitions at the FEI two-star (2018 one-star), Intermediate, or higher levels in the five years preceding the start of the competition.
Horse may have completed any level.

Qualifying Results

  • 1st or 2nd in any USEA recognized Training Horse Trials (or) Training Three-Day competition

Further to the above QR, horse and rider must have completed a total of three USEA recognized horse trials during the qualifying period. The placing requirement as noted above are included in the total of three competitions. Once the placing QR has been met, the additional H.T.s required may be at the Modified level, Preliminary level, or One-star level.

  • 1st or 2nd in any USEA recognized Training Horse Trials (or) Training Three-Day competition

Further to the above QR, horse and rider must have completed a total of three USEA recognized horse trials during the qualifying period. The placing requirement as noted above are included in the total of three competitions. Once the placing QR has been met, the additional H.T.s required may be at the Modified level, Preliminary level, or One-star level.

Open Modified Championship

Open to any horse and rider, not necessarily as a combination, who have qualified under the AEC Modified qualification criteria.

Qualifying Results

  • 1st or 2nd in any USEA recognized Modified Horse Trials (or) Modified Three-Day Event (or) CCI1*S/L

Further to the above QR, horse and rider must have completed a total of three USEA recognized horse trials during the qualifying period. The placing requirement as noted above are included in the total of three competitions. Once the placing QR has been met, the additional H.T.s required may be at the Preliminary level or higher.

Preliminary Amateur Championship
Rider must have declared amateur status per USEF Rules for Eventing EV Appendix 3 1.3 and USEF GR1306.
Both rider and horse may have completed any level.

Qualifying Results

  • 1st or 2nd in any USEA recognized Preliminary Horse Trials (or) Preliminary Three-Day competition (or) CCI2*-S/L

Further to the above QR, horse and rider must have completed a total of three USEA recognized horse trials during the qualifying period. The placing requirement as noted above are included in the total of three competitions. Once the placing QR has been met, the additional H.T.s required may be at the Preliminary level or higher.

Preliminary Rider Championship
Rider may not have completed competitions at the FEI three-star (2018 two-star), Advanced, or higher levels in the five years preceding the start of the competition.
Horse may have completed any level.

Qualifying Results

  • 1st or 2nd in any USEA recognized Preliminary Horse Trials (or) Preliminary Three-Day competition (or) CCI2*-S/L

Further to the above QR, horse and rider must have completed a total of three USEA recognized horse trials during the qualifying period. The placing requirement as noted above are included in the total of three competitions. Once the placing QR has been met, the additional H.T.s required may be at the Intermediate level or FEI two-star level.

Junior/Young Rider Preliminary Championship
Rider must be age 14-21 in accordance with USEF Rules for Eventing EV104.2.
Rider may not have completed competitions at the FEI three-star (2018 two-star), Advanced, or higher levels in the five years preceding the start of the competition.
Horse may have completed any level.

Qualifying Results

  • 1st or 2nd in any USEA recognized Preliminary Horse Trials (or) Preliminary Three-Day competition (or) CCI2*-S/L

Further to the above QR, horse and rider must have completed a total of three USEA recognized horse trials during the qualifying period. The placing requirement as noted above are included in the total of three competitions. Once the placing QR has been met, the additional H.T.s required may be at the Intermediate level or FEI two-star level.

Preliminary Horse Championship
Horse may not have completed at the FEI three-star (2018 two-star), Advanced, or higher levels.
Rider may have completed any level.

Qualifying Results

  • 1st or 2nd in any USEA recognized Preliminary Horse Trials (or) Preliminary Three-Day competition (or) CCI2*-S/L


Further to the above QR, horse and rider must have completed a total of three USEA recognized horse trials during the qualifying period. The placing requirement as noted above are included in the total of three competitions. Once the placing QR has been met, the additional H.T.s required may be at the Intermediate level or FEI two-star level.

Intermediate Championship

Qualifying Results
A minimum of two, in any combination, of the following, without cross-country jump penalties:

  • USEA/USEF recognized Intermediate Horse Trials (including Area Championships)
  • CCI3*-S
  • CCI3*-L

One of the two may be at the Advanced level.

$60,000 Adequan USEA Advanced Final at the AEC

Qualifying Results
A minimum of two, in any combination, of the following, without cross-country jump penalties:

  • USEA/USEF recognized Advanced Horse Trials (including Area Championships)
  • CCI4*-S
  • CCI4*-L
  • CCI5*-L
  • Olympic Games
