Award points are granted based on point values detailed in the charts below and only apply for the current competition year. The first chart contains the point values used for the individual award categories at the Beginner Novice, Novice, Training, and Modified levels.

Point values applied to the overall leaderboards earned at the Beginner Novice, Novice, Training, Modified, Preliminary, Intermediate, and Advanced levels and to the individual award categories for Preliminary, Intermediate, and Advanced levels are based upon the Grade Policy.

Horses must be registered with the USEA at Limited or Full status and riders must be actively registered at a USEA competition-eligible level (Life, Full, Junior, or Intercollegiate) on or before an event's starting date for the horse and rider to receive award points.

Preliminary, Intermediate, and Advanced Level Grade Point System

The Grade Points tables are based on the placement of the horse in competitions in the U.S. and competitions outside the U.S recognized by the FEI. The point values apply toward the Overall Leaderboard for all levels and the individual categories for Preliminary, Intermediate, and Advanced Levels.

Grade points accumulate during the competition lifetime of each horse, but only the points earned in the current year count toward the year-end awards. Horses must be registered with the USEA will Full status for Preliminary and higher levels, and at the Limited status for Training and below levels. Riders must be actively registered at a USEA competition-eligible level (Life, Full, Junior, or Intercollegiate) on or before an event's starting date for both to receive grade points.

The number of placings to receive points shall be based upon the total number of starters in the division. For every additional four starters above 39, one more level of placings shall be awarded points equal to 10th place points.

Where there are less than 10 starters in a division of a horse trial/CCI-S, CCI-L, or national three-day event, the points will be awarded at the next lower level. In the case of this occurring in a Preliminary, Training, Novice, or Beginner Novice division (including N3D and BN3D eventing tests), the points will be halved.

A horse trial offering a dressage test and show jumping test at the higher level, points are awarded based on the level of cross-country.

Cross-country completions without jump penalties are awarded points at the national three-day event, including N3D and BN3D eventing tests, and CCI-L levels, regardless of placing within the division.
