On the weekend of May 14-16, the Chattahoochee Hills May Horse Trials hosted the USEA Area III Championships for the Beginner Novice through Preliminary divisions, as well as two international horse trials divisions, the CIC1* and CIC2*, and also Intermediate and Advanced divisions.
Within its rolling 8000 acres, Bouckaert Farm, owned by Belgian Olympic rider (2000) Carl Bouckaert, riders at every level got a good taste of what this September will bring for the USEA American Eventing Championships. Cross-country course designer Ritch Temple and his team laid out six tracks featuring meticulously crafted, natural jumps and obstacles with true championship-level questions. Competitors also enjoyed brand new show jumping, dressage, and warm-up arenas.
Despite the treacherous flooding in the area early this year, which literally washed away half of the course, the jumps and footing were in tip-top shape for the May Horse Trials and Area III Championships. Building and preparation, including stabling and parking, will continue until September when the USEA AEC comes to town, where the final USEF Mandatory Outing for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games team will take place.
