In Memoriam: Mr. Medicott

The USEA is sad to report that Mr. Medicott (Cruising x Slieveluachra) passed away on September 17 at Ms. Jacqueline Mars’ Stonehall Farm in Virginia where he has enjoyed his retirement since 2019. The Irish Sport Horse gelding made quite the mark on the sport of eventing in the U.S., completing more than 50 FEI events over the course of his career with five different riders and finishing in the top 10 at 30 of those competitions. Mr. Medicott attended two Olympic Games and one World Equestrian Games for two different countries over the course of his career. “Cave,” as he was known around the barn, was 24 years old at the time of his death.

In Memoriam: Jessie Aikman

The USEA shares its condolences with the friends and family of Area I Adult Rider Jessie Aikman. Aikman passed on September 3, 2023, from injuries received as a result of a fall at a USEA-recognized/US Equestrian licensed competition. Several of Aikman's friends came forward to share their words of love for Aikman after her passing.

All AEC Jumping Rounds Live Streamed for First Time in History, Videos Available for Purchase for All Phases

For the first time in the 19-year history of the USEA American Eventing Championships Presented by Nutrena Feeds (AEC), all jumping rounds on both cross-country and show jumping are being live streamed. Every class from Beginner Novice through Advanced has been live streamed, and individual videos, or “clips,” are available for purchase from USEA partner Horse & Country (H&C).

In Memoriam: Kevin Freeman (1941-2023)

The USEA is saddened to hear about the passing of USEA Hall of Fame member Kevin J. Freeman. According to a social media post made by Freeman's son, Kevin Freeman Jr., the Pan American Games and Olympic medalist from Portland, Oregon, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on March 10, 2023. Funeral services will be communicated at a later date.

In Memoriam: James C. Wofford

The USEA is heartbroken to hear about the loss of James “Jimmy” C. Wofford. A lifelong lover and supporter of the sport, Wofford has had an astounding influence on where eventing is today and has tirelessly supported the goals of the United States Eventing Association. He served as president of the American Horse Show Association (now U.S. Equestrian (USEF)), was the first vice-president of the U.S. Equestrian Team (USET), and served as secretary of the USCTA (now USEA). He served two terms as a member of the FEI Eventing Committee, including two years as vice chairman. In addition, he has served on numerous committees during his career.

Every year we receive reports of members and leaders of our sport receiving phishing attempts both online and by phone. These are often communications disguised as being sent from USEA staff or other leaders. As the years go on, the phishing attempts appear to be more directed and tailored.

USEA Investigating Issues with Mail Delivery through the USPS

It has been brought to the attention of the United States Eventing Association (USEA) that there have been issues with mail delivery by the United States Postal Service (USPS) to the USEA office associated with the busy holiday season. There have been numerous reports by members of letters being sent to the USEA office which have not been received dating back to before the Thanksgiving holiday. We are working with the USPS to attempt to address and resolve this situation. If you have sent in physical mail to the USEA office with no response, we encourage you to contact the office at (703) 779-0440 or via email at [email protected] to verify its arrival.
