Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series As the 2009 eventing season draws to a close, this year's suspenseful Adequan USEA Gold Cup series reached its grand finale. After a successful fifth year for the popular program, where top riders and horses across the country competed for cash, prizes, and points, only one champion could take home the title of "Keeper of the Cup"...and $10,000 in cash! Those who followed in the Gold Cup points saw standings shuffle dramatically throughout the year. When all was said and done, the 2009 Adequan USEA Gold Cup champion was Leslie Law, who partnered with Beatrice and Guy Rey-Herme's Fleeceworks Mystere du Val. The successful duo of Law and the nine-year-old Selle Francais-cross gelding racked up an astounding 655 points on the leaderboard, finishing nearly 200 points over second-placed Jennie Brannigan and Cooper, thanks to their Advanced win at the Bit of Britain/USEA American Eventing Championships in September. Law started strong this season with a second place finish at The Fork Horse Trials CIC3* (Norwood, NC), the second stop of the Gold Cup Series this year. They tacked on 175 points to the Leaderboard after The Fork, and later added 200 points for winning the Richland Park Horse Trials CIC3* (Richland, MI). A solid win at the AEC this year clinched their victory. Leslie Law will be awarded his trophy, prizes, and a check for $10,000 at the 2009 USEA Annual Meeting and Convention in Reston, Virginia at the USEA's 50th Anniversary Celebration. Starting in March 2010 , upper
level horses and riders from across the country will soon be gearing up for next year's Gold Cup Series. The Series is still limited to eight prestigious events. Back from their hiatus in 2009, the Red Hills Horse Trials will kick off the series during the first weekend in March down in Tallahassee, Florida. The American Eventing Championships will again offer a Gold Cup division, and will be
held September 9-12 at the breath-taking Chattahoochee Hills in Fairburn, Georgia.
What is the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series? Horses and riders must achieve points together as a pair at the Gold Cup events, and both must be members of the USEA. First place winners take home 200 points for their win, and can also earn bonus points: 50 extra points for double-clear cross-country rounds, and 40 extra points for double-clear show jumping rounds. To learn more about how horses and riders rack up points, visit the Gold Cup Points System page. Winners of each of the eight Gold Cup events across the country take home a trailer-load of prizes for their achievements. Winners receive an Adequan USEA Gold Cup Trophy, $500 in prize money, 7-dose box of Adequan, a three-month supply of SUCCEED, an E.A. Mattes Couture Pad, and a pair of Nunn Finer American Style open front boots. Second place finishers take home a Nutrena feed gift certificate and a pair of Nunn Finer American Style open front boots, and third place receives a pair of the Nunn Finer boots as well. (Right:
