The pressure was on today at the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Division at the Stuart Horse Trials. The top three riders were separated by a mere half a penalty point, so there was no room for error. With an electric atmosphere of spectators, a bag piper, and a packed trade fair in the background, the CIC2* riders entered the ring one by one to have their chance to tackle Richard Jeffery’s course. At the end of the afternoon it was God Save The Queen which was piped over the speakers as the Union Jack was raised in honor of the victory of Leslie Law and Missy Miller’s Pembridge Swingtime.
“I am just thrilled for the Miller Family on this great win,” said Law. “Swinger was wonderful today and managed to put in a very good round in tough competition. I am very excited to win a Gold Cup division once again. Swinger will be returning to Missy after she is finished with Young Riders, and they are aiming for the CCI2*at Chattahoochee Hills in the fall.”
Law also finished in tenth place with Troy Glaus’ Rehy Lux.
Second place went to Phillip Dutton and the experienced Syd Kent. Dutton is riding J.C. Chester’s gelding for Jan Byyny while she is recovering from an early season injury. The pair went into show jumping in third place and despite an uncharacteristic rail down, Dutton and Syd Kent still moved up in the standings.
Peter Barry of Canada and his own Kildronan Abbott entered the ring in fourth place but jumped a double clear round to move up to third place.
