John H. Fritz 1924-2012
It is with the deepest sadness that USEA says goodbye to one of its founding fathers, Jack Fritz, who passed away this morning.
In any organization, any sport, committees and regulations are a necessary "evil." Without rules, chaos takes over. From the very beginning of Eventing in the United States Jack was hard at work helping to build the framework of a viable organization. A list of the official positions he has filled would run to several pages. Among others he has served as Governor and Vice-President of the USCTA (now USEA) and the United States Pony Club; Chairman of the AHSA (now USEF) Combined Events and Dressage Committee and as Secretary Treasurer and Director of the USET. He was a founding member of the USDF.
"Ubiquity" is defined as the "state of being in an indefinite number of places at once; omnipresence; the state of existing always without beginning or end." It's an apt description of Jack. If there was anything to do with combined training going on, Jack will have had a hand in it.
Jack not only spent countless unsung hours drawing up rules and regulations, defining and formulating the precepts by which the sport is governed, he also served as a judge and technical delegate seeing that these rules are properly enforced. Generations of Pony Clubbers know him as the man who sets the high standards for Pony Club examinations, and many young riders have been encouraged and helped to further their riding careers through his efforts. He was forever giving of his time, travelling all over the country, indeed all over the world, even to far off Australia and New Zealand on official Pony Club and Combined Training functions…There is no part of the sport of eventing that does not owe something to Jack Fritz.

USEA EA21 Athlete Megan Hopkins Leads the Field in CCI3*-S at Virginia Horse Center
The Virginia Horse Center was bustling with activity during day one of Virginia Horse Center Eventing horse trials, presented by Capital Square. A total of four FEI divisions and six national divisions kicked off the competition weekend. Two long-format competitions, a CCI1*-L and a CCI2*-L, completed their dressage tests on Friday, May 23rd, while the CCI2*-S and CCI3*-S tackled two phases— dressage and show jumping.
