The sunny skies of the Arizona desert made for a perfect setting as USEA members from across the country joined together for a show jumping course design seminar taught by the legendary Richard Jeffery. The day began with a classroom session as Richard explained the intricacies of course design. The participants then had a chance to put their new knowledge into action as they built a course in the jump ring at Frederic Bouland’s facility at Pinnacle Peak Equestrian Center. Three demo riders then rode the courses as Richard and the attendees analyzed the striding, flow, safety, and multitude of other factors. The Show Jumping Course Design Seminar was the first activity of the 2010 USEA Annual Meeting and Convention. Leslie Mintz Photos.
The horses in trainer Joe Davis’ barn at Horseshoe Indianapolis don’t just get standard hay in their nets each day. Throughout the afternoon, Davis or one of his employees opens the HayGain machine that sits at the end of his shed row and pulls out a warm, beautiful-smelling bale of freshly-steamed hay to fill their nets.
