Heart of the Carolinas 3-Day Event & H.T. (May 2016) Omnibus Listing

Carolina Eventing Challenge: This competition is part of a series called the Carolina Eventing Challenge. This Challenge consists of
three competitions: Southern Pines 1 in March 2016, Longleaf Pine Horse Trials in April 2016 and finishing at the Heart of Carolinas Three-Day Event in May 2016. There will be one prize awarded for each level of competition; one prize for BN, one prize for Novice, one prize for Training and one prize for Preliminary. In order to qualify for the Challenge a rider and horse must
participate in at least two of the three competitions and MUST compete in the BN3D, N3D, T3D or Preliminary Combined Test at the series finale at the Heart of the Carolinas. The horse/rider combination at each level with the lowest combined scores from their best two events in the series will win. The final prizes will be awarded at the Heart of Carolinas in May 2016. HOTC is hosting a new Eventing Test at its 2016 competition.  HOTC  believes in education and in promoting opportunities for riders of all ages to join the ranks of Eventing. Since the HOTC competition mission is the education of the rider and horse, the new Coaching Allowed Test, or CAT, fits well into our educational theme. The specifications for this class are under "Other Information". We also encourage competitors to participate in the Long Format Educational Activities throughout the weekend to help discover the wonderful opportunities that are available all weekend at the show.

3-Day Entry Fees: T3D: $600. N3D: $575;  BN3D: $550; HT Entry Fees: T/N/BN: $180. 
Preliminary CT: $50.
Coaching Allowed Test Divisons: Intro-N:
$150; Intro-BN: $150. Note: Parallel levels are categorized as Eventing Tests, not levels of horse trials.
3-Day entry fees include stabling from 4/29-5/3/14. Separate stall cleaning check of $50 must be included with entry. Check will be torn up if stall is stripped.
HT Stabling fee: $150.00 from Wednesday, May 4th through Sunday, additional nights, $25.00. Stall deposit $50.00 (separate check required with entry).
Grounds fee: $50.00 (non-stabled horses).
Entries limited to 150 competing and mulitple horses per rider may not be accommodated based on management descretion to alllow for more individual opportunities.
$40.00 per night.
3-Day Qualifications: Training, Novice and Beginner Novice horse and rider must be registered members of the USEA.
T3D: Horses and riders must have competed in 4 Training Horse Trials - see Appendix 3 of the USEF Rules for Eventing for entire permitted qualifications: one training horse trials must be as a combination). N3D: Rider only must have completed 4 Novice Horse Trials or higher. BN3D: Rider only must have completed 4 Beginner Novice Horse Trials or higher.
Fees: All entries that are received on opening day eletroncally with full paid fees through Event Entries will receive a 75.00 discount on the entry fee. All Entry fees include a $25 non-refundable office fee. Levels may be divided/combined as entries warrant and based on the discretion of show management; state preferences under Eligible Section and birth date on entry. NOTE: USEA fees are not included as part of the entry fee. The association fees should be added to your entry fee, per the itemized Fees Enclosed section of the Entry Form, totaled with the other applicable fees, and sent to the event with your entry. USEA membership and USEA horse registration are required for all levels. Use the entry form titled, "2016 USEA Horse Trials, T3D & P3D" or entry will not be accepted.
CT: USEA membership required or pay the $25 USEA Non-member fee. Horse registration not required. Starter/D&M fees do not apply.
CAT: USEA membership and non-membership fees are waived and USEA Starter/D&M fees do not apply. 
All entries must include a copy of a current negative coggins test. Entries may not be postmarked prior to the opening date. Entry confirmation will be emailed. Double entries: Not accepted. Membership: All changes must be made in writing; mail, fax or email is acceptable. There will be a $50 change fee for ANY change to an entry after the closing date. There is a $50 returned check fee. Refunds: Withdrawals received in writing on or before the closing date will be refunded minus the $25 office fee. After closing date entries will only be refunded if space can be filled. In the event the competition has to cancel, there will be no refunds. USEA Starter and D&M Fees Refund Policy: The USEA Starter and D&M fees ($21), are not subjected to officie fees, and shall be returned within 30 days of the competition to any rider who does not start the dressage test.

Competitor Information
Ribbons through 8th place in each division.
Stabling: $150/stall Wednesday May 4th through Sunday.   Additional nights-$25/stall. Three Day Horses have priority on Permenant Stabling (12 x 12),  all Temporary stalls (10’ x 10’) available if entries warrant.  If temporary stabling is utilized, barn assignments will be prioritized to Three Day entries in permanent stabling and others in Temporary Stalls  and based on postmark date of entry (not “stable with” requests).  Stall doors/initial bedding (shavings) provided.  Tack stalls $150 - available only after all horses have been assigned a stall. No tack stalls in the permanent stalls  No stabling changes without permission of secretary or $50 fine.  Grounds fee for non-stabled horses $50 for entire event.  Hay/Shavings available for purchase on grounds for 8.00 a bag.  $50 stall cleaning deposit required & must be included with entry ON A SEPARATE CHECK.  Stalls to be stripped prior to leaving (check will be destroyed if stall is stripped).

?Heart of the Carolinas Classic Eventing: Coaching Allowed Test (CAT)
A. Dressage Test – The dressage test may be read aloud to the competitor if necessary. In addition, the coach may give verbal assistance to the competitor related to direction of course or any other directives necessary to ensure safety of horse and/or rider during the test. 
B. Cross Country Test – The cross country course follows the same track and the same set of obstacles as the Beginner Novice division(s) in a horse trials; however, the following is allowed:
1. The competitor has the option of skipping (bypassing) an obstacle on the course. The competitor will be penalized for each bypass. 
2. The competitor is allowed a maximum of 3 attempts per obstacle, after which he must bypass the jump and continue on course. 
3.   The competitor’s coach will be allowed to verbally assist the competitor while the competitor is on course, either for help in direction, speed, encouragement or with instruction on how to negotiate an obstacle if there is difficulty. Any instruction with safety in mind is acceptable. The coach is not allowed to follow the rider around the course on any motorized or non-motorized vehicle. The coach may not come in contact with or lead the horse over an obstacle. 
C. Show Jumping Test: A competitor may receive verbal assistance from the coach who may be positioned outside the ring, which can instruction that pertains to direction, speed, rider position, or any directive addressing safety concerns. A competitor is allowed a total of five (5) refusals on the show jumping course. The competitor is allowed to bypass a fence on the show jumping course.  
See below for penalties and scoring for each phase.
A. Dressage:  Scoring rules are consistent with recognized divisions. There is no penalty for having the dressage test read aloud.  
B.  Cross Country:  As in non-modified divisions, penalty points in the cross-country are accumulated through faults at obstacles (such as
refusals, runouts, and circles) and time faults with the following exceptions:        
1.  There are no eliminations except for dangerous riding or for fall of horse or rider.       
2.  Faults at Obstacles: 
First refusal,
run-out or circle - 20 penalties
Second refusal, run-out or circle at the same obstacle - 40 penalties
Third refusal,  run-out or circle at the same obstacle – 100 penalties
Bypassing a fence  – 100 penalties       
3.  Time and Speed Faults:
 Exceeding optimum time
- 0.4 penalty point per second
Exceeding time limit- 1.0 penalty point per second 
C. Show Jumping:  Penalty points are accrued through faults at obstacles (such as refusals, runouts or circles) and time penalties as in non-modified divisions with the following exceptions:       
1.  There are no eliminations except for dangerous riding or for fall of horse or rider.  
2.  Faults at Obstacles:
Obstacle knocked  down while jumping - 4 penalties
First  disobedience - 4 penalties
Second  disobedience - 8 penalties
Third – Fifth disobedience – 20 penalties
Skipping a fence  – 20 penalties
After five      disobediences - the competitor is excused and given 100 extra penalties  
3. Time Faults: exceeding the time allowed – 1 penalty per second or commenced fraction thereof.
