As a reminder for all Modified competitors, the USEA will be offering a Modified Rider division for the first time at the 2023 AEC, alongside the Open Modified division. With the addition of the Modified Rider division, entrants will now be able to compete in the Adult Team Championships (ATC) as well.

The ATC has traditionally been held at the Beginner Novice, Novice, Training, and Preliminary levels for competitors in the Amateur and Rider divisions only. ATC riders may now enter the Modified Rider Championship to be on a Modified ATC team. To be eligible for the ATC, riders must be 22 years of age or older and a member of their Area Adult Rider program by July 1, 2023.

In past years, Areas were eligible to send up to eight teams, with a maximum of 35 riders. With the addition of the Modified level at the ATC this year, Areas may now send an additional eight riders (above the 35) if those riders are at the Modified level. For more information on the ATC and to view additional requirements by Area, please click here.

Don’t forget, both horse AND rider must be qualified for the AEC to compete, and they both must still be eligible for the level of competition at which they qualified. To confirm your qualification, visit the AEC Qualified Riders and AEC Qualified Horses lists throughout the year. If you have any further questions, please check the AEC Qualification page or call the office at (703) 779-0440 ext. 3005 to reach Sharon Gallagher, Senior Director of Competitions.

About the USEA Adult Team Championships

The USEA Adult Team Championships, which debuted in 2014, is the capstone event for the USEA Area Adult Team Challenges, providing adults the chance to compete as a team and represent their Area of the country in a friendly and fun environment. Historically, adult riders had three regional Team Challenges in which to compete with fellow adults in a team environment, with the locations changing each year. Alliston’s Busy Weekend, Braitling’s Reuniting with Five-Star Mount, & Kalkman’s Advanced Victory Highlight Twin Rivers Summer H.T.

As he was finishing tacking up his horse in preparation to navigate the cross-country course at the 2024 Twin Rivers Summer Horse Trials, James Alliston expressed concern about navigating the 101 Freeway. That’s because as soon as he crossed the finish line aboard Intermediate level winner Addyson (Ampere x Nickerbocker) at 10:38 a.m. on Saturday—his fifth cross-country round of the morning with three at Preliminary and two at Intermediate—the West Coast-based five-star rider had to drive 185 miles on the 101 Freeway from Twin Rivers Ranch in Paso Robles, California, to San Francisco International Airport to catch a 4:35 p.m. flight to Frankfurt, Germany.
