If you’re a new team setting out to compete in the 2024 USEA Intercollegiate and Interscholastic Eventing Championships in just a couple of weeks, preparing for the “happiest horse trial” in the U.S. may seem a bit daunting. With five components to the Spirit Award contest that require creativity and cohesion between team members, there is a lot that goes into preparing and packing to leave for the event.

The Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event is just over a week away, and a slew of USEA Young Event Horse (YEH) Program Graduates are slated to make the trip to the Bluegrass State to compete in what is looking like an epic weekend of sport. Between the Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event CCI5*-L and the Cosequin Lexington CCI4*-S divisions, a total of 24 former YEH participants are set to go down centerline in the Rolex Arena next week. With the Paris Olympics quickly approaching, and the event serving as one of the final selection trials for team spots, the entry lists for both divisions are full of star-studded combinations setting their sights on big goals in 2024.

The United States Eventing Association, Inc. (USEA) is gearing up for another exciting year of Classic Series competition, which means it is the perfect time to review the qualification requirements for participation in these nostalgic events. In 2023, the Classic Three-Day Event Task Force successfully updated the qualification requirements for competing in all levels of the Classic Series to allow more members to experience the thrill of the chase. The 2024 USEA Intercollegiate and Interscholastic Eventing Championships are fast approaching, and time is running out for program members to secure their spot at this epic event. For the first time, the Intercollegiate and inaugural IEL Championships will be hosted on the same weekend at the Stable View Local Charities H.T. in Aiken, South Carolina, on May 4-5, and the organizers are pulling out every stop to make this an unforgettable experience for all involved! The event has a maximum capacity of 400 entries, so don’t wait to add your name to the list of confirmed competitors.

After an impressive showing at the 2024 Ocala Horse Properties USEA Young Event Horse (YEH) Symposium in February, the USEA caught up with Ariel Grald to chat about her upcoming plans for Annie Eldridge's coming 5-year-old Holsteiner mare, Melypsa (Barcley x Elypsa), whom she expertly piloted around the Symposium course to become one of the panelists’ favorite demonstrations.

The coveted Spirit Award, which originated from the USEA Intercollegiate Eventing Championship and quickly became as important as the competition itself, will be returning this year with double the excitement at the 2024 USEA Intercollegiate & Interscholastic Eventing Championships! With the two program championships merging for the first time, the organizing team at Stable View is committed to making the weekend an unforgettable experience for these middle school, high school, and undergraduate students. Separate Spirit Contests will be offered for each program , and Stable View has generously donated perpetual trophies for the two contest champions. It may still be early in the season in most of the country, but it is never too early to start thinking about your path to qualification for the 2024 USEA American Eventing Championships (AEC) presented by Nutrena Feeds! This year, the AEC will return to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky, on Aug. 27 through Sept. 1 for another exciting week of championship-level competition for every level of the sport of eventing. With the addition of Starter to the list of USEA-recognized levels, the AEC is going to be even more jam-packed with thrilling competition!

Since 2014, the USEA Intercollegiate Eventing Program has provided a framework on which eventing teams and individual competitors can continue to pursue their aspirations within the sport while attending colleges and universities across the country. While Intercollegiate Team Challenges have quickly risen in popularity on the East Coast of the U.S., adoption on the West Coast is just picking up with two exciting new team challenges that have been added to the 2024 calendar at iconic California venues, Galway Downs and Twin Rivers Ranch.
