USEA Announces the Windfall Trophy

In keeping with the USEA and USEF policies to promote the domestic breeding of horses for Eventing, and in recognition of the benefits of competition-testing breeding stallions, a group of supporters have offered to endow an annual award to be given to the USEA-registered stallion that earns the most leaderboard points at Preliminary level and above. The USEA Board of Governors voted unanimously in December 2014 to approve this proposal.

The award will be named in honor of the stallion whose performance in the sport stands highest - the anglo-Trakehner Windfall, owned by Timothy Holekamp and ridden during his career by Ingrid Klimke and Darren Chiacchia. Windfall stands third in points in the history of Eventing in the U.S., and helped the U.S. win the bronze team medal at the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004. Windfall also won the individual Gold Medal at the 2003 Pan-American Games, along with many other competitions during his lengthy career.

Perhaps equally importantly, both his sire and his sire's sire competed successfully in Eventing for the German international team, and many of Windfall's offspring are succeeding in the sport now. His son Tsetserleg, owned by Christine Turner and ridden by Michael Pollard, was the 2014 USEA Preliminary Horse of the Year.

Windfall will be officially retired at age 23 on April 26, 2015 in a ceremony at the Rolex CCI. He is still sound and ridden daily by his greatest fan and the person who trained and successfully competed him in 2013 at Grand Prix dressage, Tim's wife, Cheryl Holekamp.

The USEA appreciates the opportunity to recognize Windfall and future successful competition stallions.

The leaderboard for this award is forthcoming.
