The USEA has spearheaded the effort for equine cardiovascular and pulmonary research with the development of the cardio study over five years ago. The research has now gone global with a study being run by a group of veterinarians affiliated to the University of Bern in Switzerland. Please read the below letter from one of the veterinarians on the study and assist if you are able.

Dear Riders, Trainers and Veterinarians,

We are a group of veterinarians and riders affiliated to the University of Bern that loves horses, equestrian sports and are interested in improving the health and safety of our equine partners. We are studying collapse and sudden death in horses to be able to design strategies to prevent these episodes. If you have ridden, trained or treated a horse that collapsed or died during or near exercise we want to ask you to please fill in a questionnaire. We know this is a difficult matter to discuss, but your input is very valuable for the equestrian community.

Names of people and horses will always remain confidential and below are links to an anonymous questionnaire so you will not be identifiable if you do not want to be. The goal is to have one questionnaire per case/horse. If you do prefer we can email the questions or ask them to you over the phone. Please, do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
