Novice and Intermediate Competitors Dance in the Dressage Ring on Day 2 at the #AEC2025

Temecula, Calif.—Aug. 28—The second day of the USEA American Eventing Championships presented by Nutrena Feeds welcomed the Advanced, Intermediate, and Novice Championship riders to the dressage arenas for another day of fun-filled action.

USEA Open Intermediate Championship
Santa Barbara, California native Audrey Sanborn and her own 9-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding Lex D (Freeman VDL x Berber) are currently leading the USEA Open Intermediate Championship after dressage and will head to cross-country with a 27.8.

USEA Novice Amateur Championship
San Ramon, California based Kate Helffrich and here 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare Coquette, (Prince Caspian x Karisma) got their Championships off to a great start with a 23.1 dressage score to lead going into cross-country on Friday.



USEA Novice Horse Championship
There’s a three-way tie after dressage evaluated by judges Vicki Stashuk-Matisi and Tiffany Silverman, who awarded a 24.9 to these three pairs–Temecula-based professional Chloe Smyth and Michelle Cameron Donaldson’s SR Myconos, an 8-year-old Warmblood stallion sired by Con Air; Kaufman, Texas-based Ellen Sebanc and her own 6-year-old Dutch gelding Orion RSF (Gaudi x O Baby), and Malibu, California-based professional Tommy Greengard and Sandra Donnelly’s Black Hole Sun, (Belshazar x Gemini V), a 5-year-old Canadian Warmblood stallion. This 21-horse division is closely packed at the top.

USEA Novice Junior Championship
Michaela Smith, of Redwood City, California, and the striking Palomino Cashmaker (Casino Royale K by Golden Princess) earned a 24.2 dressage score to lead their field. Cashmaker is a striking, 12-year-old German Sport Horse owned by Laura Smith.

USEA Novice Rider Championship
Dawn Scott (Atascadero, California) and her 13-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare Shannondale Ghost (Shannondale Sarco x Riverlon Mist) danced their way to the top of the leaderboard on a 25.6 in dressage. The pair now sit in first place heading into tomorrow’s cross-country in the USEA Novice Rider Championship.

About the Adams Horse Supply USEA Adult Team Championships
The Adams Horse Supply USEA Adult Team Championships, which debuted in 2014, is the capstone event for the USEA Area Adult Team Challenges, providing adults the chance to compete as a team and represent their Area of the country in a friendly and fun environment. Historically, adult riders had three regional Team Challenges in which to compete with fellow adults in a team environment, with the locations changing each year. In 2013, the USEA Adult Rider Coordinators voted to move to support Adult Team Challenges taking place in all 10 Areas across the country, with the finale being the ATC at the USEA American Eventing Championships presented by Nutrena Feeds. Each Area can send up to eight teams from Starter Level to Modified Level to the ATC.
