By USEA | May 12, 2011

Julia Kelly of Chicago, Illinois, who passed away on Sunday, May 8, at the age of 67 was well known to riders who competed at Rebecca Farm in Kalispell, Montana. Julie and her husband Ed were long-time sponsors of all the awards presented to competitors at The Event at Rebecca Farm, many of whom are now the proud owners of the beautiful glass art pieces so generously provided by Julie.

Mother of two sons Drew Kelly, Manager of Rebecca Farm, and Alex Kelly, Julie was also affectionately known as “Mother of the World” because she inspired and supported so many people in her life with her work and her endless caring for others. Her accomplishments have spanned many endeavors all centered in art, creativity and leadership including being a tennis pro, designing and manufacturing a tennis clothing line, writing a book on tennis, designing and building high end homes, interior decorating, and for the past 20 years, running Blasart, a Chicago based industrial glass works business specializing in sandblasted glass art pieces for design and architectural use. Julie was also an avid volunteer. The “Volunteer of the Year” award is named after her for Ladder Up, a tax assistance program for the working poor of Chicago.

Anyone who got to spend a little time with Julie could not fail to appreciate the sense of warmth, safety and unending possibilities that emanated from her. She never let her interest in life and relationships fade and her intellectual curiosity and open-mindedness sparked countless conversations that challenged participants but always left you smiling.Throughout her battle with ALS Julie maintained the same grace and dignity with which she lived her life. There is no doubt that she will be very much missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.

The USEA extends its deepest condolences to Julie’s husband Ed, her sons Drew and Alex, their wives Sarah and Trina and grandchildren Tommye, Alexander, Audrey and Finn.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers or gifts, donations be made to ALS research in Julie’s name at http://www.lesturnerals.org.
