USEA Horse of the Month: Zydeco Nights

There were 14 USEA recognized events that took place in June, the first month back from the suspension of the eventing calendar due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While no one finished with a score in the teens, Erin Walker and Zydeco Nights came very close. By finishing on a score of 20.0, Walker and Zydeco Nights won the Novice Rider division at the Chattahoochee Hills H.T. on Sunday, June 28.

How to Show Jump Clear at a Long Format Event with Doug Payne

In 2019, Doug Payne completed eight CCI*-L events on four different horses, and every time he jumped clear in the show jumping. This fault-free record resulted in a fifth-place finish with Vandiver at the Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event CCI5*-L, a team gold medal and individual fourth-place finish with Starr Witness at the 2019 Pan American Games CCI3*-L, a second-place finish with Baymax at Virginia Horse Trials CCI2*-L, and a win with Starr Witness at Jersey Fresh International CCI3*-L.

60 Days Away! The History of AEC Through Numbers

The very first USEA American Eventing Championships (AEC) was held 16 years ago in 2004. A total of 413 starters competed in the first AEC and since then, it has become the pinnacle for eventing in the U.S. This year’s AEC will be held in two months on August 25 – August 30 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky.

USEA Offering Open Modified Division at 2020 AEC

The United States Eventing Association (USEA) Board of Governors previously authorized a full Modified level to be offered at the 2020 USEA American Eventing Championships (AEC) presented by Nutrena Feeds. The intent was to help create interest in the new level for competitors and AEC qualifying competitions. Since that decision, the organizing team has been working to install a full Modified course at the AEC in 2020. Initially the focus was to create a Modified Rider division, and then to expand the division offerings in future years as more qualifying competitions were made available across the country. However, the USEA has been receiving a substantial number of requests to open up the Modified level at the 2020 AEC.

Volunteers Weigh In on New COVID-19 Protocols

Since the USEA lifted the COVID-19 suspension on June 1, 2020, there have been 11 recognized events that have taken place across the country. Events such as Plantation Field, Waredaca, and Full Gallop Farm have been the pioneers for adapting to the new normal of eventing. Setting the standard high, these events have diligently followed the USEF COVID-19 Action Plan and have shown everyone how an event can run safely and smoothly. The success of these events is due largely in part to having strong volunteers.
