Learn more about dressage and jumping training techniques for horses at each age/stage of their training. Symposium groups will be defined by age/training stage of horses.

The U.S. Eventing Association’s Instructors’ Certification Program (ICP) invites event riders, instructors, horse owners, and other friends of the sport to attend the 2014 ICP Ocala Symposium, Monday and Tuesday, February 10 and 11, at Longwood Farm South in Ocala, Florida. Please join us on both days. Attendance of ICP-certified instructors will earn them ICP Continuing Education credit.

Monday, February 10, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Canadian dressage competitor, trainer, and instructor Jaqueline Brooks will present dressage training.

Canadian Jacquie Brooks is a current international dressage competitor, having ridden for Canada at both the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. She is also a prominent dressage instructor who works effectively with event horses and riders. Jacquie will discuss what she sees and requests as she instructs riders on quality horses with the audience, as well as the riders. The horses will range in age and experience, with Jacquie selecting developmentally appropriate dressage training movements. Internationally respected and personally accessible, Jacquie looks forward to her discussion and Q-and-A with the audience as much as she looks forward to teaching the riders.

Tuesday, February 11, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. American show jumping competitor, trainer, and instructor Aaron Vale will present show jump training.

American Aaron Vale is a current top show jumping competitor who rides at HITS Ocala in the winter. He rode in his first grand prix at age 14; figuring out how to “think like a horse,” he earned such show ring success with his can-do attitude that he was a frequent catch rider. Since then, he has “never thought about doing anything else” and has won at the grand prix level numerous times on a variety of horses, twice at the Washington International Horse Show. Whether you watch him jump 5’+ fences or a youtube where he easily canters 4, 5, or 6 strides between the same two jumps, you will appreciate the facility and quiet confidence of both horse and rider. “You don’t have to ride big fences to get a feel for what training a horse will need,” Aaron says. Go to this 2014 Symposium to hear and see what he means. Watch him work with horses ranging from younger to older and from less to more experienced.

About Daniel Stewart, equestrian sport psychology consultant, who will be presenting sport psychology information and answering your questions from 12:30-1:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at the 2014 ICP Ocala Symposium at Longwood Farm South in Ocala:

Daniel has been a successful international trainer and instructor for over 25 years. In addition to working in the US, he’s trained riders in Spain, Portugal, Canada, Mexico, Belgium, United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, Greece, and the West Indies. From 1999 to 2007, he coached riders on several US Equestrian Teams to success at World Championships, World Equestrian Games, and Olympics.

As the internationally acclaimed author of “Pressure Proof Your Riding” and "Ride Right,” Daniel is considered one of the world's leading experts on equestrian sport psychology and performance. He teaches clinics and seminars to thousands of riders each year, is a popular guest speaker and keynote at many national equestrian conventions, has been the subject of countless magazine articles, is the sport psychology expert for the Horse Radio Network, and writes the monthly sport psychology “Tip of the Month” for the USEA website. Daniel lived in Andalusia, Spain, until recently but now resides in Naples, Florida.

Directions to Longwood FarmSouth, 10011 NW Hwy 225A Ocala Florida 34482. The farm is just north of Ocala and just west of Highway 75, which runs pretty much north/south on the west side of Ocala. So, traveling north on Highway 75, just north of Ocala go west (left) on rte. 27 or on rte. 326; at NW Hwy 225A, turn north (right); continue driving and pass the Longwood Farm main driveway on the right; turn east (right) onto 110^th Street. Then, continue driving for about 1 mile and watch for the Longwood Farm South driveway on your right labeled Gate Number Five. Turn in there and drive quite a long distance to the parking area/field.
