Walter Gervais, the well-known septuagenarian eventer, died this morning at age 87 at his home in South Attleboro, Massachusetts.

Walt lived a physically-intense life. He was a boxer in the Navy during World War II and placed 25^th in the 1946 Boston Marathon.

In 1990, at the age of 69, Walt won his first Novice level event. At age 75, Walt competed in his first long-format CCI* at the Bromont Three-Day Event in Quebec, Canada. Walt’s last event was in 2001 where he finished on his dressage score in the Open Training Division at the Sporting Days Horse Trials in Aiken, South Carolina.

Walt spent 20 years working with Denny Emerson at Tamarack Hill Farm, and even graced the back cover of the Summer 2004 USEA Omnibus.

Walt is survived by his wife, Joyce, two daughters, grandchildren, and great-granchildren.
