Trading Aces 2004 - 2016

The USEA is sad to report that one of Boyd Martin’s former upper level partners died yesterday, October 27, 2016. “Oscar” was a 12-year-old Irish Sport Horse, by Coevers Diamond Boy and out of Ballyvannon Beauty VII. Martin stated the gelding suffered from cardiac arrest.
Kylie Lyman first competed the horse through the CIC3* level for Joan Nichols, before the Trading Aces Syndicate purchased him and Martin took over the ride in 2012. Together Martin and Oscar racked up many top placings including CIC3* wins at Richland Park and Red Hills. Phillip Dutton also shared some time in the saddle with Oscar in 2014 while Martin recovered from an injury that year. Together Dutton and Oscar had a top ten finish at the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event before being selected to represent the United States at the World Equestrian Games.
Last year Oscar was purchased by junior rider Alex Pielet for a new career in equitation, a decision that Martin thought would be best for the horse due to his struggle with stamina on cross-country.
“We are sad to share that Oscar has passed away due to cardiac arrest,” Martin explained via his Facebook page. “He was a very special horse who always tried his heart out, and will be missed by all who knew him. Our condolences especially to the Pielet family.”
Our thoughts are with all of Oscar’s connections.
