We have made it to cooler weather and a few weeks of good ol’ Eventing! Thank goodness. I wasn’t sure if my horses and I could stand the consistent 100+ degree weather any longer, as the weatherman just informed us that this has been the second hottest June/July in North Texas history. Plus, I think we have all been craving some cross country.
Over the past few weeks we have been running around like maniacs, trying to get all of the Pony Club equipment together, the Area V t-shirts made, jog outfits confirmed (having seven girls agree on two outfits is not as easy as one would think), the horses cleaned up and looking “professional”, and most importantly just getting the boys fit for the hills in Kentucky (those aren’t very prevalent here in Texas). Most of my days have been starting in the barn at around 6:30 where I ride the two boys, feed, clean up around the barn, pull manes and tails, and then head back inside around 10:30 – by then, the temperature is normally somewhere above 95. Packing, studying for my USPC H-A rating (I will be taking that a week after I get home), and getting random and unexpected visits from team member, Jacob, and whomever else he brings along, take up the rest of my afternoon. At night I have been working out with one of my close school friends, Karolyn, at the track next to our school, and swimming or watching a movie.
