Preliminary, Modified, and Training Tackle Cross-Country at #AEC2025

Temecula, Calif.—Aug. 28—Cross-country kicked off on a cool morning today with contenders in the Bates USEA Preliminary Championships. They headed out over beautiful, challenging tracks designed by Clayton Fredericks, Allessandra Allen-Shinn and Rob Mobley.

Bates USEA Preliminary Rider Championship

Katherine A. Schultz and En Vogue (Earl x Laurena) went double-clear this morning to boost themselves into the overnight lead. The Bodega Bay, California-based rider and Ruth Bley’s 10-year-old Hanoverian mare now lead on a 32.2.

Bates USEA Open Preliminary Championship

James Alliston continues winning ways with Arnell Sporthorses’ Made By Leontine EB (Casago X Jackpot E.R.). He and the 8-year-old Dutch Warmblood maintained their 25.2 dressage score with double clear cross-country. The San Ramon, California-based Team USA rider has less than a rail in hand going into Friday’s show jumping finale for this division, and the field behind them is dense with top professionals.

Bates USEA Preliminary Amateur Championship

Young Rider Hanni Sreenan, Hood River, Oregon, could be poised for another big win at Galway Downs. The 2023 USEF National CCI2-L champion and the 18-year-old Black Hanoverian Ebenholtz, (Ehrentusch x Levantine) keep their first-place position with fault free cross-country, sticking on yesterday’s 27.0 dressage effort.

USEA Modified Amateur Championship

Annamarie Curtin is making her trip from Santa Fe, New Mexico, well worth it. Incurring just 1.6 time faults on cross-country, she and her own 13-year-old Hanoverian Kermit, (Fabuleux x Fairbanks) move up one notch after dressage to take the overnight lead on a 35.8.

USEA Modified Open Championship

Temecula-based Kaylawna Smith-Cook and Ruth Bley’s Remember Me, (Radisson x unknown) remain unforgettable, incurring no faults to stay on their 28.7 dressage score. The top of the field remains tight, however, going into Friday’s show jumping finish.

USEA Modified Rider Championship

Marilyn Schackner and her own 9-year-old Zangershiede gelding Georgie Z (George Z x Peggy), continue their week in top form. The Auburn, California-based pair completed their Modified cross-country course in 5:44 seconds and finished on their dressage score of 28.2. The pair heads into tomorrow’s final show jumping round in first place.

ARMA USEA Training Amateur Championship

Leah Forquer (Hollister, California) is holding strong at the top of the ARMA USEA Training Amateur Championship leaderboard, delivering a flawless cross-country round with Michael Tobias’ talented 8-year-old Hanoverian gelding Favorit Ask (Favorit Ask x Hauptstutbuch) to remain on their dressage score of 20.1. The pair head into the final phase as the ones to beat.

ARMA USEA Training Horse Championship

After laying down a 23.2 in dressage yesterday, Santa Barbara-based Audrey Sanborn and her 5-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare Parel Van Der W (Impressive VDL x Kalysha Diola V) proved their strength once again with a fault-free cross-country run. The pair remain at the top of the ARMA USEA Training Horse Championship leaderboard heading into the final day of the AEC.

ARMA USEA Training Junior Championship

Lorelei Frederickson (Port Townsend, Washington) and Kremer VD Falieberg, Mia Frederickson’s 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding (Up to Date x Odermus R) jumped from second place position to first after cross-country, finishing on their dressage score of 27.3 going into day 3 of the ARMA USEA Training Junior Championship.

ARMA USEA Training Rider Championship

Isabella Rega, of Salinas, California, and Blurred Lines, a 15-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding owned by Adrianna Kosmont, are still out in front at Galway Downs, holding the lead on a 25.2 after adding just 0.4-time penalties to their cross-country run.

The Adams Horse Supply USEA Adult Team Championships, which debuted in 2014, is the capstone event for the USEA Area Adult Team Challenges, providing adults the chance to compete as a team and represent their Area of the country in a friendly and fun environment. Historically, adult riders had three regional Team Challenges in which to compete with fellow adults in a team environment, with the locations changing each year.
