By USEA | January 24, 2026

Altoona, Fla.—Jan. 24— The United States Eventing Association (USEA) is saddened to report an equine fatality in the Preliminary Rider division at the Rocking Horse Winter I Horse Trials. The 17-year-old Thoroughbred gelding Evening Melody, known in the barn as Harper, and owned and ridden by Cindy Rawson, had completed the competition and was heading back to the barn when Harper collapsed and died.

Harper was attended by the onsite veterinarian and transported to the University of Florida Veterinary Hospital for necropsy.

Our thoughts are with Cindy and all who knew Harper.
