Over 100 Entries Flood in on Opening Day for the 2013 AEC, the Pros Weigh In

By USEA | August 15, 2013

The USEA is thrilled by the initial reaction of eventers nation-wide to the 2013 Nutrena USEA American Eventing Championships, presented by VTO Saddlery.

An unprecedented number of Championship-qualified horse and rider pairs entered on opening day, August 13: over 100 entries on the first day alone! If you’re wondering whether or not the drive to Texas is worth it, you may want to hop on the bandwagon for this one. Leslie Law is making the trek to tackle the Advanced.

“I’m hoping it’s going to be a great prep for Fair Hill International Three-Day Event (Elkton, MD) in October, and the $40,000 in prize money (for the Gold Cup division) certainly makes it attractive.” Law laughed.

Jon Holling also has September 26-29 marked on his calendar with two Advanced and one Preliminary-level horse.

“The AEC is a destination event for me, and the national Championship is something to aspire to and the chance to ride for $40,000 is huge!” said Holling. “I have three things that are always on my calendar: a spring CCI, a fall CCI, and the AEC.”

Rick Wallace, aka Mr. Stickability, will be taking three of his young rider students to compete at the Novice and Prelim levels, as well as two of his own horses.

“With my students, I think it’s an important educational experience to travel far and go to the ‘Big Show.’ It teaches them about what it takes to qualify and achieve a goal, and how to travel safely with horses and manage their time.”

“And also,” laughed Wallace, “the prize money.”
