David M. Crystal, age 73, passed away October 3, 2015, as a result of complications from heart disease. He is survived by his wife, Melissa Crystal; two daughters, Rebecca (Roman) Pizmoht of Rapidan, VA and Abby (Matt) Scott of Walworth; granddaughter, Emily Scott; brother, Robert Crystal of Florida; many nieces and nephews, as well as cherished brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
David retired as a professor of mathematics and statistics at RIT and was honored with the title of Professor Emeritus. Also a very active member of the community, he formerly served on the Bloomfield Board of Education and as President of the Four County School Boards Association. He served on the board for Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES. Most recently, he served on the West Bloomfield and Ontario County Planning Boards. As well as his civic involvement, David was involved in the United States Pony Clubs at the local, regional and national level and served on committees in the United States Eventing Association. For 25 years, he and his wife served tirelessly as volunteers in the organizing of the Stuart Horse Trials, held in Victor. He will be remembered fondly for his photographic skills, love of gourmet cooking and fierce dedication to his family.
From Stuart Horse Trials: "He was so much to Stuart Horse Trials. Over the years David was a board member, Chairman of Show Jumping with Melissa, our money man, in charge of golf carts, the most awesome photographer, announcer, slide show man, program coordinator, lanyard designer and manufacturer, I am sure I have forgotten many of his jobs . . . but he would do anything you asked of him and more. He was an enormous fan of the sport of Eventing and traveled all over to spectate, support and work at many other events.”
David's memorial service will be held at a later date and time to be announced. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220 or the United States Eventing Association's Young Event Horse Program, 525 Old Waterford Rd., NW, Leesburg, VA 20176. Condolences may be offered atwww.johnsonkennedy.com.
