South Woodstock, VT - October 28, 2011 - An exciting aspect of the Cross-Country Upgrade Project is that it has allowed for individuals and businesses to become involved in creative and beneficial ways with GMHA and Area I eventing. We’ve heard from many people who tell us they donated to the project because they want to help preserve the GMHA’s reputation as one of the premier venues in the country. Businesses see the fantastic potential in associating their goods and services with a great facility that offers tremendous exposure with over 10,000 visitors per year across multiple disciplines.
One of the most successful Vermont companies, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, is sponsoring the newly designed, GMCR-themed main water complex, located between the dust bowl and the Walker ring. Owners Bob and Christine Stiller have a long history with GMHA as their daughter, Jules, grew up riding and competing there. Christine writes, “This is a very exciting opportunity for us and we are already looking forward to watching the first horse through the new water complex.” Jules, too, has come onboard as a sponsor of the soon-to-be-built stonewall and ditch complex, funded under her Headley Stud banner.
Individual sponsor Jennifer Eddy and family had fun imagining a carved wood squirrel family and woodland theme being created thanks to their donation, while Jamie Fields and her eventing family are supporting footing upgrades and Diane Thompson has targeted the final water complex with their sponsor dollars.
There are plenty of sponsorship opportunities left, including new jumps for the dust bowl tree-line, reshaping approaches to jumps, revetting and drainage, a bridge to be built over the final water crossing, and portables for all levels. To discuss your vision and how you or your business might become involved, please call Molly Hutchins at 802 457 1509. For more information on sponsorship, download the Upgrade brochure, which can be found on GMHA’s website.
Riders in both the Cosequin Lexington CCI4*-S and the Defender Kentucky CCI5*-L are sharing similar sentiments about this year's cross-country courses: course designer Derek di Grazia didn't play around this year. Here is what some of the riders across both divisions had to say about the tracks they will aim to conquer on Saturday.
Off The Record decided not to let Michael Jung be the only record-breaking entry at the Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event this week and delivered a career-best score in the Cosequin Lexington CCI4*-S on Friday morning. He and Will Coleman delivered a test that received a score of 21.8, not only marking a personal best for the horse but also securing their position at the top of the leaderboard going into cross-country tomorrow.
Boyd Martin and the 12-year-old Holsteiner gelding Commando 3 were the last pair to go in the Defender Kentucky CCI5*-L field on Friday afternoon and were warmly greeted to the bluegrass with an impressive downpour that outshined anything the other horse and rider pairs had to combat throughout the day. But that didn’t stop this pair from putting their best foot forward and impressing the judges enough to earn them a score of 26.0, just 0.2 points ahead of second-place pair Tom McEwen (GBR) and Brookfield Quality.
Please always remain vigilant when it comes to sending any personal communications via email or text. Every year we receive reports of members and leaders of our sport receiving phishing attempts both online and by phone. These are often communications disguised as being sent from USEA staff or other leaders. As the years go on, the phishing attempts appear to be more directed and tailored.
