South Woodstock, VT – 4-5-12 – The Green Mountain Horse Association will host its first Future Event Horse, Young Event Horse and New Event Horse Test on June 1, 2012 at the newly revitalized facility in South Woodstock, VT.
Event riders tired of competing in stifling August temperatures on rock-hard ground might consider putting GMHA’s Festival of Eventing on their summer calendar. Plans for the inaugural three-competition Festival, to be held in South Woodstock, Vermont August 6-12 (opening date June 26), call for a Novice/Training long-format three-day Tuesday through Thursday, a Beginner Novice/Novice one-day horse trial on Friday, capped off by a two-day Beginner Novice through Intermediate horse trial over the weekend.
The Green Mountain Horse Association, South Woodstock, Hitching Post Farm, South Royalton and Huntington Farm, South Strafford, VT are teaming up to create a new program for event riders for 2012. The Vermont Eventing Challenge is a year end awards program for riders competing in Vermont’s USEA recognized Horse Trials.
You really have to see it in person to appreciate it, but the renewal taking place at the Green Mountain Horse Association’s 65-acre South Woodstock, Vermont facility is impressive. A record mild fall has helped considerably to maximize work being done on the Cross-Country Upgrade Project, launched last spring as an effort to rejuvenate the historic course at the multi-discipline equestrian center.
An exciting aspect of the Cross-Country Upgrade Project is that it has allowed for individuals and businesses to become involved in creative and beneficial ways with GMHA and Area I eventing. We’ve heard from many people who tell us they donated to the project because they want to help preserve the GMHA’s reputation as one of the premier venues in the country.
The Strafford Saddlery Shop is hosting an online silent auction to benefit GMHA, whose grounds were ravaged by Tropical Storm Irene. Online bidding started today on the Strafford Saddlery Shop website. Please visit the GMHA website to find out more about what you can do to help and the damage suffered during Tropical Storm Irene.
After much deliberation we have reconsidered our policy for a refund for the cancellation of the GMHA September Horse Trials. GMHA is now offering to refund $100 per entry to competitors.
The GMHA grounds have been severely impacted by Hurricane Irene. Just like many communities in our area, we have experienced extreme flooding and destruction to our barns and grounds. Planning has begun to rebuild and restore our grounds, rings, and barns- however, we have had to cancel the September 17-18 Horse Trials.
