The West Coast's sole CCI4*-L will take place this weekend at the Galway Downs International Event in Temecula, California, kicking off this afternoon with the first horse inspection for the FEI levels. The only other CCI4*-L in the United States will be held in two weeks at the Tryon International Equestrian Center in Tryon, North Carolina. This is the 10th year that Galway has offered a CCI4*-L. Galway will also be hosting the West Coast leg of the Adequan USEF Futures Team Challenge and the USEF CCI3*-L National Championships. Dr. Elizabeth MacDonald, Clinical Instructor of Equine Medicine at Virginia Tech’s Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center (EMC) in Leesburg, Virginia, began her presentation on gastric ulcers by saying, “My goal is to not just tell you about what’s out there but make you understand the stomach, its job, how it functions, and what its role is so that we can better understand how we diagnose disease and how we can treat and prevent.”

Three years after the creation of the USEA Young Event Horse Program (YEH), the USEA Future Event Horse Program (FEH) was born in 2007. Sharing similar goals as YEH, the FEH program evaluates the potential of yearlings, 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds, and 4-year-olds to become successful upper level event horses.
