The USEA is excited that The Maryland Horse Trials at Loch Moy Farm will be holding a Jump Chute Clinic on Thursday, July 16, 2015. The clinic is open to horses of all ages, and handlers will be assisted in teaching their horses how to safely and effective free jump through a jump chute. A special invitation is extended to horses that are 3 years of age and are currently competing in the USEA Future Event Horse (FEH) series.
This Clinic is intended to be an introduction for young horses to practice free jumping in a jump chute. The setup will be similar to the chute that will be used at the East Coast USEA Future Event Horse Championships, which will be held at Loch Moy Farm on October 8, 2015.
The height of the jumps will depend on age and experience, and the horse's safety and best interest will be paramount.
Free jumping is a wonderful way to evaluate the potential of a young horse or an experienced horse over fences. It is also an effective and positive way to introduce a young horse to jumping without the guidance or distraction of a rider. But free jumping is not just good for young horses - it is also beneficial for mature horses to keep them quick on their feet and to remind them how to take care of themselves when needed.
The clinicians will be FEH Committee members Robin Walker and Samantha Allan. Both Walker and Allan have successfully competed at the upper levels of Eventing, and Robin also competes in Show Jumping up to the Grand Prix level and is an ICP Faculty member. Allan is a USEF Eventing Judge (r), USEF Eventing TD (r) and USDF Bronze Medalist. Walker and Allan have both brought along many young horses from the start and have seen that a correct foundation for a young horse has a significant impact on a horse’s future success.
The cost for the jump chute clinic will be $60 per horse, for a 30 minute session. Anyone may audit for $10. Learn more and register here.
