Event riders tired of competing in stifling August temperatures on rock-hard ground might consider putting GMHA’s Festival of Eventing on their summer calendar. Plans for the inaugural three-competition Festival, to be held in South Woodstock, Vermont August 6-12 (opening date June 26), call for a Novice/Training long-format three-day Tuesday through Thursday, a Beginner Novice/Novice one-day horse trial on Friday, capped off by a two-day Beginner Novice through Intermediate horse trial over the weekend.
In the glorious Versailles sunshine, in front of a packed stadium of wildly enthusiastic spectators, the British team of Rosalind Canter, Tom McEwen, and Laura Collett clinched team gold, while Germany’s Michael Jung took the individual eventing title at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The U.S. Eventing Team wrapped up their Paris Olympics this afternoon with a seventh-place finish on a score of 133.7. Boyd Martin and Federman B and Liz Halliday and Nutcracker made it into the individual jumping final where they finished 10th and 19th, respectively.

Going into today’s show jumping phase at the Millbrook Horse Trials, Meghan O’Donoghue and her 18-year-old Thoroughbred gelding Palm Crescent could afford to have one rail down and still claim first place in the Advanced division. They left all the rails up and cantered across the finish line in the time allowed to clinch the win.
