US Equestrian has announced the USEF Eventing High Performance Elite, Pre-Elite, and Development Training Lists for the winter of 2021. The training lists are part of U.S. Performance Director Erik Duvander’s U.S. Eventing Pathway Program, focused on developing combinations to deliver sustainable success for the USEF Eventing Program at the international championship level. The Area V Championships were split between two events: the Novice and Beginner Novice Championships were held at the Meadowcreek Park Fall Social Event in Kosse, Texas on September 19-20, 2020, and the Preliminary and Training Championships were held at the Texas Rose Horse Park Fall Horse Trials in Tyler, Texas on November 7-8, 2020.
Given the current Covid-19 pandemic situation the Eventing Committee met for monthly videoconference calls between March November 2020, led by the Chair David O’Connor and attended by all the Eventing Committee Members and FEI Eventing Department. The Eventing Committee videoconference calls included many discussions to finding solutions to the ramifications of the Covid-19 virus in order to encourage the organization of eventing competitions, Nations Cup, and Championships.
The Surefire Farm Horse Trials, held at Jan Byyny's Surefire Farm in Purcellville, Virginia, has announced that they will not be holding USEA recognized horse trials moving forward. Surefire Farm has hosted horse trials since 2004, offering Beginner Novice through Intermediate levels.
In July, the USEA Foundation announced a new set of educational grants spearheaded by the Broussard Family and the Broussard Charitable Foundation Trust that would be awarded to deserving candidates 18 years old and above who are passionate about moving their commitment to the sport forward.
Ava Hingson, a 19-year-old from Cornwall, Connecticut, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 in a tragic freak accident on a trail ride. Daughter of Drew and Elise Hingson, Ava was a sophomore at Sewanee: University of The South studying English Literature and was an active member of Sewanee's intercollegiate eventing team.

The Fresno County Horse Park (FCHP), located in Fresno, California, is under new ownership as of November 15, 2020. John Marshall, who purchased the equestrian facility (known then as Ram Tap) in 2012 from Bill and Margaret Burton, has sold the park to Terry Hilst, an Area VI eventer who previously organized the horse trials at Camelot Equestrian Park in Butte Valley, California.
The USEA has a new program named the USEA Interscholastic Eventing League (IEL) and since the announcement last month, this new program has gained widespread interest from members all over the country. The USEA website now has an interscholastic homepage that includes guidelines, a scoring template for event organizers, an IEL application form, and a list of interscholastic teams that are already registered for 2021.
It was a year of firsts for the USEA Young Event Horse Program (YEH) in 2009. It was the first time the USEA YEH East Coast Championships were held at Fair Hill International and it was the first time the West Coast hosted their own USEA YEH Championships at Galway Downs International.
