2015 Annual Meeting and Convention Speaker Spotlight: Roy Burek and Julie Lawther

Roy Burek
Roy Burek is the grandson of the founder of the renowned helmet and safety vest brand, Charles Owen. He is very involved in the development of safety equipment standards around the world and is involved in the leading edge research for the development of safer helmets. He has been recognized for his contribution by ASTM and the British Horse Society. He is currently a member of the Safety Advisory board to the British Horse Society.
Recent Innovations in Equestrian Safety wtih Roy Burek from Charles Owen: Roy's seminar will be going over the latest developments in safety, both in helmets and body protection. He will outline the new helmet standards that have been recently changed - Europe (EN1384/VG1 in March 2015) and (ASTM 1163 in January 2016) and how these changes have impacted helmet manufacturers, stores and the end consumer. Roy will also be able to discuss the airvest standard (SATRA M38:FEB 2015) as well as give product perspective on the recent findings on airvest safety.
Julie Lawther
Julie Lawther has been a successful equine artist for over 20 years. Her clientele include individuals and corporations around the world. Specializing in portraiture work has always been her main focus, but for many years she has also taught aspiring artists. As a self-taught artist, she draws from her extensive background and experience in the equestrian world as a trainer, instructor, farrier and veterinarian technician to create the horse as true to life as possible.
Her main inspiration as an artist comes from noted 18th century artist George Stubbs. George Stubbs studied extensively the equine anatomy and was the pioneer in this field. Julie has studied his works and pursues this level of realism and detail in her art through her own study of equine anatomy and movement. When not working on a portrait or teaching a workshop or lesson, Julie Lawther lives in Tuscola, Texas with her family, horses and pets.
Art Lessons with Julie: For one hour come and learn the basics to drawing a horse's head. Renowned equine artist Julie Lawther will show attendees the tricks of the trade when it comes to accurately drawing a horse’s head. If you every wanted to know how to draw a horse, don't miss this fun and fact-filled demonstration. Your supplies are included as well as a step-by-step print out to take with you. All ages are welcome to join in and learn from a master artist.
