Brush up on your Italian, the 2022 FEI Eventing World Championships at Pratoni del Vivaro in Rome, Italy is getting closer with each passing day. With no location able to host all disciplines of the FEI World Equestrian Games, the sports have split up this year and eventing joins together with driving in Italy. The eventing portion is scheduled for September 15-18, 2022 and and will serve as a qualifier for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Where?
The World Championships will be held in Pratoni del Vivaro which is located 20 miles south of Rome. Pratoni del Vivaro was the venue for eventing at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome as well as the site for the cross-country competition at the FEI World Equestrian Games in 1998.
The test event for the World Championships will be held at Pratoni del Vivaro from May 11-14. The CCI4*-S competition is a part of the FEI Eventing Nations Cup as well as the Italian Eventing Championship.

Who?
Each country can send up to five riders – four team members and one individual. The best three scores will count for the team. The final four selected to represent the U.S. as a team will be confirmed after the first horse inspection at the Championship.
The qualification period for riders is from January 1, 2021 to August 15, 2022, but applications are due to the USEF on April 15, 2022. Riders must earn an MER at one CCI5*-L, or one CCI4*-L and one CCI4*-S, to be eligible to compete. Nominated entries are due to the FEI on August 15 with definite entries due on September 5.

Other CCI4*-L competitions in Europe from April 21, 2021 to July 1, 2022 may be considered as USEF Selection Trials with approval of the USEF Eventing Selectors and the USEF Eventing Sport Committee. An athlete must make the request in writing to the USEF Managing Director of Eventing no less than 30 days prior to the start of the competition for consideration by the Eventing Selectors and the Eventing Sport Committee or an Ad Hoc Group approved by the Eventing Sport Committee.
Selected riders must participate in a Mandatory Training event sometime after July 1, 2022, as well as demonstrate their preparedness for the Championship at a Preparation Event which is anticipated to be a CCI4*-S, Advanced Horse Trial, or Advanced Combined Test. All details relating to the Preparation Event will be released no later than May 1, 2022.
