Gretchen Butts led the Hylofit USEA Classic Series Three-Day Open Forum at the 2018 USEA Annual Meeting & Convention where a number of topics were discussed.

  • Plans are in the works to develop a Modified Three-Day division. The committee is in the process of developing qualifications and submitting a rule change proposal.
  • The committee has compiled Classic Series Guidelines and they are now available on the USEA website.
  • The committee discussed the importance of certain educational sessions, including those on steeplechase and vet box, and the possibility of making these sessions mandatory.
  • The qualifications for the Novice Three-Day have been updated. The new qualifications require that horse and rider complete four horse trials at the Novice level or higher with an MER, one of which can have no more than 20 jumping penalties on cross-country. Two must be completed as a combination.
  • The committee is working on developing a video that will help explain the Classic Series Three-Day to those who have not participated in one before.
  • In 2017 the USEA Classic Series saw 1,097 starters and in 2018 saw 1,190.
  • 2018 saw a peak in entries in Novice and Beginner Novice Three-Day divisions.
  • The Training Three-Day had 172 total entries and the Preliminary Three-Day had 11 (consistent with past years – typically low numbers).
  • The Classic Series has a new Title Sponsor: Hylofit.
