Who is ready for another day of dressage at the 2024 Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event (DK3DE)? Just like yesterday's schedule, we will first see the CCI4*-S field compete this morning starting at 8:00 a.m. EST, followed by the CCI5*-L field at 1:00 p.m. EST.
In the Cosequin CCI4*-S, the leaderboard didn't shuffle much at the start of the day on Thursday. That all changed when the last three riders came to play, however, as Will Coleman (USA) bested his previously leading score with Off the Record with his second mount Diabolo, only to have the lead immediately taken from him by Boyd Martin (USA) and Commando 3. Read the full recap from the CCI4*-S on Thursday here.
Today, Hannah Bundy (CAN) will have the honors of getting the CCI4*-S underway aboard the 13-year-old Thoroughbred mare Lovely Assistant (Colonel John x Absolutely Lovely) that she co-owns with Carl and Nicholas Hansen. In addition to Bundy, another 28 pairs are set to compete today. There was a heartbreaking withdrawal yesterday as Coleman announced that he had withdrawn Hyperion Stud LLC's 12-year-old Holsteiner gelding Chin Tonic HS (Chin Champ x Wildera) due to a carpal sheath issue. Last year's Kentucky five-star champion Tamie Smith (USA) riding the Kynan Syndicate LLC's 9-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding Kynan (Envoy x Danieta) will close out the dressage phase for the four-star at 12:11 p.m. EST.
The international field made their mark in the CCI5*-L yesterday with FEI Eventing World Champions Yasmin Ingham (GBR) and Janette Chin and The Sue Davies Fund's 13-year-old Selle Francais gelding Banzai Du Loir (Nouma D'auzay x Gerboise du Cochet) paving the way with an impressive five point lead. Fellow Brit Kirsty Chabert and the 15-year-old Anglo European mare Classic VI (Calvaro F.C. x India Summer), owned by Kate Ward, Carole Somers, and John Johnston, are sitting in the reserve spot while German rider Malin Hansen-Hotop has settled into third with Bodil Ipsen's 12-year-old Holsteiner gelding Carlitos Quidditch K (Quiwi Dream x Amsterdam). Read the full five-star report here!
We have 19 pairs left to see in the five-star field today starting at 1:00 p.m. EST and U.S. rider Sharon White and her 12-year-old Holsteiner gelding Claus 63 (Catoo x Tina II) will be the first pair hoping to break into the top rankings following yesterday's start to the division. Closing out the first phase is Phillip Dutton (USA) and Caroline, Anne, and Michael Moran's 12-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare Azure (Omar x Cavalier Rosalier) who will ride at 3:55 p.m.
