The Southern Pines Horse Trials takes place every March at the Carolina Horse Park in Raeford, North Carolina (Area II) offering Beginner Novice through Preliminary horse trials and Beginner Novice through Advanced combined tests.
The old adage about the home field advantage held true this weekend in the Adequan USEA Gold Cup & PRO Tour Advanced Division at Southern Pines as North Carolina residents, Will Faudree and Susan Beebee pleased the local crowd with their top placings.
Will Faudree started out his cross-country day a bit rough as he hit the ground early in his run on his first horse, DHI Colour Candy. Luckily he still had two more opportunities to tackle the Hugh Lochore-designed course in the Adequan USEA Gold Cup & PRO Tour Series Advanced division at Southern Pines. Will came back on his two remaining rides and laid down the two fastest ones of the day giving him the top two places heading into tomorrow’s show jumping finale.
When judge Brian Ross put his hand out of his car window and gave a thumbs up after Will Faudree’s final salute, Will knew that he and Jennifer Mosing’s 12-year-old Irish Thoroughbred mare, Andromaque, had put in a pretty good test in the Adequan USEA Gold Cup & PRO Tour Advanced Division at Southern Pines II.
CANTER Mid-Atlantic will present awards to the top placing Off-Track-Thoroughbreds (OTTBs) competing in the USEF/USEA Recognized Southern Pines Horse Trials II Intermediate and Advanced Divisions.
The Advanced division at the Southern Pines H.T. in Raeford, North Carolina is up next on the 2013 Adequan USEA Gold Cup & PRO Tour Series Schedule. The event kicks off this Friday with over 30 competitors entered in the Advanced class.
Beginner Novice through Preliminary competitors flocked to the first Area II event of the season at Southern Pines I in Raeford, N.C. on March 10 and 11. Good early season courses and picture perfect weather made the weekend enjoyable for riders. Six dressage rings ran efficiently on Saturday for all competitors while Novice and Beginner Novice divisions show jumped and Preliminary and Training divisions ran cross-country.
Laine Ashker riding Anthony Patch and Sinead Halpin riding Manior De Carneville both finished on the score of 38 at last weekend’s Southern Pines H.T. II in Raeford, NC. Sinead bested a field of 23 riders in the Advanced A division while Laine finished first by ten points in the Advanced B Division. Both Sinead and Laine are preparing for the Rolex Kentucky CCI4* at the end of April.
