It's always exciting to see new events taking root, and it's our pleasure to help get the word out. Sundance Farm in Plymouth, Wis., is supplying Area IV with another chance to compete in the fall season with their first USEA-recognized horse trials, set to run September 27-28. They offer levels Beginner Novice through Training, with a cross-country course built by Eric Bull.

From Organizer Kelly Mahloch:
"Sundance Farm of Plymouth, Wisconsin, is thrilled to host their first USEA-recognized Horse Trial. Having hosted numerous mini events, clinics, and a cross derby, we have gotten a lot of practice and are ready for the real deal. Our goal is to provide another opportunity for northern Area IV to ride a fun course. We have had Eric Bull in to build all the banks, ditches and water complex, and have had great responses from people riding the course. The bank complex is quite impressive and uses the natural terrain. The property is on the edge of the Kettle Moraine, which offers various hills and ridges. We also have some wonderful wooded gallop lanes and lanes along corn and alfalfa fields. All kinds of moveable jumps have been constructed including rolltops, cabins, chevrons, benches and log piles. Since most jumps are not permanent, it means the course will never need to stay the same.
The fall date of late September means people coming up to Wisconsin are going to get to experience the beautiful autumn colors and temperatures as part of everyone's favorite season up here. The bugs are gone, the temps are cooler at night and everyone is comfortable.
The course is located on the 100-acre farm, while the stabling, dressage, and stadium jumping are located at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds, just 4 miles from the farm. The facilities already have regulation USDF sand arenas with judges stands, and quality, permanent stabling and camping make for a comfortable stay for horses and riders. Stadium jumping will be held there also, but on the grass. Competitors will have time to drive out to the farm and walk the course, simply by getting on the highway and taking a nearby exit ramp. Plenty of parking in the fields near the warm up and start box will get everyone on their way efficiently. A wash rack will be constructed and water will be available for filling water buckets in the parking area.
Various vendors and tack shops are scheduled to be at facilities for both days. We have lots of great volunteers and are quite excited to offer this new venue. We are intending to continually add jumps to the course and would love to see some jump sponsorships help us to do that. If you would like more information about the course or the Sundance Farm Horse Trial, contact Kelly Mahloch (920) 918-1166 or check out the website for photos."
The United States Eventing Association, Inc. (USEA) is excited to announce a request for expressions of interest to host the first standalone USEA Intercollegiate & Interscholastic Eventing Championships in 2026 and 2027. With the success of the inaugural joint championships in 2024, the USEA is confident that the progression of these programs lends to a standalone event for these hardworking students in 5th through 12th grade and undergraduate college programs.
The USEA Annual Meeting & Convention is easily one of the most influential weeks in the sport of eventing in the U.S. and this year it is headed to Seattle, Washington, Dec. 12-15. The following is an excerpt from 33 Strength and Fitness Workouts for Horses by equine training and conditioning expert Jec Aristotle Ballou. Strength routines and this workout are for horses and riders with a good existing level of fitness who are working toward increased strength and endurance.
Being the last rider in the final competition of the day can be an unenviable position. Molly Duda felt the pressure all day while gearing up for her ride on her own 15-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding Disco Traveler (Donatelli x Cadence).
