Statement from Karen and David
May 28, 2008 Statement from Karen and David O’Connor:
In response to the many inquiries about today’s accident Karen and David wish to make the following statement:
“‘Teddy’ got frightened and bolted. He slipped running back to the barn and suffered a severe laceration to his hind leg, severing the tendons and ligaments. Dr. A Kent Allen was on the scene immediately and it was determined after examination that the injuries were catastrophic. Everyone who knew Teddy is devastated.”
The USEA and the entire eventing world extends deepest sympathies to Karen and David and Teddy’s owners. Teddy was, and always will be, an inspiration to us all. He was the People’s Pony. He was truly unique and his bravery, his brilliance, his indomitable strength and his zest for life and the sport will never be forgotten. (USEA staff.)
“What joy he brought to all of us and what an ambassador for our sport.” (Kyra King Stuart, past president USEA.)
