Sinead Maintains Lead at Plantation Field CIC3*, but Rest of the Field Gets All Shook Up

By Lisa Morrison - USEA Staff

The sun shone down on Plantation Field International as competitors in several divisions headed into show jumping, in advance of cross country as dictated by the new FEI CIC format. In the CIC3* division, Sinead Halpin and Manoir De Carneville held their lead with a double clear round, maintaining their dressage score of 37.8. Chasing Sinead in the Adequan USEA Gold Cup / PRO Tour Series division is Jennie Brannigan on Cambalda, who also jumped double clear to hold onto their second place position with a score of 46.2.

With 51 competitors and only 12 double clear show jumping rounds, the placings in some cases shifted dramatically. Boyd Martin and Trading Aces dropped a rail but moved up from fifth to third place, with a score of 51.7. Other competitors with double clear rounds made more significant leaps up the leaderboard. Those in the top 20 who jumped more than 10 placings include: Lisa Marie Fergusson on Feral Errol from 21st to 10th, Sharon White on Under Suspection from 28th to 15th and Lillian Heard on Share Option from 31st to 18th.

While Sinead enjoys a 9 point lead, the rest of the field is more tightly packed. Cross-country day should be interesting. Rain overnight is expected to soften up the footing on Tremaine Cooper's CIC3* cross-country course, but the forecast looks like perfect cross country weather with an expected high of 70 degrees and partly cloudy skies.

In addition to all divisions CIC divisions running cross country on Sunday, the ever-popular PRO Bareback Puissance will keep spectators entertained. In addition, be sure to tune into PRO Tour Radio broadcasting live for cross country with commentators Max Corcoran and Nate Chambers.

Cross country starts at 8:30 am with the CIC2* division followed at 10:50 with the CIC1* division. The CIC3* division will run cross country starting at 1:30 pm. Stay informed with live scoring.

Now On Course: Patience Pays Off for Nazila Hejazi & Her 20-Year-Old Missouri Fox Trotter

Nazila Hejazi and her 20-year-old Missouri Fox Trotter mare, Tessa, may have made for an unconventional pair at the USEA Area VI Championships, held in October at Galway Downs (Temecula, California) but they didn’t let that hold them back. It’s uncommon to see a horse in their twenties still competing in eventing, and even more rare for a gaited horse to compete in a jumping sport.

Echoing the Dream: Small Acts of Kindness in Eventing

Today, we pause to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and reflect on the powerful moment in 1963 when he stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and shared his vision for a better future. Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech was more than just words; it was a call to action that transcended time, culture, and boundaries—a beacon of hope that continues to inspire.

That “Forward” State of Mind

We’ve all been there—on the horse who pokes his way around the warm-up ring, needs leg, leg, leg coming into the combination, or brings up the rear on every trail ride. None of us wants each and every ride to be a lower-body squeezefest, nor do we wish to do anything with our crop except maybe wave it at that annoying deerfly. In this excerpt from his book The Sport Horse Problem Solver, former international eventer Eric Smiley explains the essential quality of forwardness and how to prepare the horse to expect you to look for it in all that you do together.
