RIDER BLOG: Frankie Thieriot on the Bromont CCI3* Part 1

Hi everyone, I’m Frankie Thieriot from Occidental, California, and for the next week I am very excited to be taking you behind the scenes as I head to Canada for the Bromont CCI3* with my long-time partner, Fric Frac Berence. I will try to give insight each day, not only about my rides, but also from competitors, and on the competition itself. So enjoy the blog, I look forward to sharing this journey.

After a long trip from California for the horses, everyone arrived safely in Pennsylvania to Buck Davidson’s barn, where he has been very kind to put up my horse and Estrella, Andrea Baxter’s horse, until we embark on the rest of the journey to southern Quebec, Canada late Monday night.

The horses have been at Buck’s for a couple days now and look rested and in good shape after the long trip. Today we drove a few miles to a nearby park to do our last gallop and give the horses a chance to clear their lungs before we head off to the show.

Fric was his usual excited self to be doing anything other than Dressage, which he has come to resent as he has gotten older. I sometimes feel apprehensive about his fitness just before a big event, but today, as he eagerly drug me up the hill, ears perked with excitement, he reassured me that he’s right where he needs to be.

When we got back to the barn, our fellow west-coasters were just pulling in–Leigh Mesher and Alexandra Slusher–who will accompany us on the final leg to Bromont. As always it was good to see their faces, and I am very excited about the large caravan we will have crossing the U.S./Canadian border. It should be an exciting trip for us four west-coast gals along with the buddies we met at Buck’s.

On Monday, a few of the girls had a jump school in the morning, which I was excited to watch. I did a light flat school with Fric and then took him for a long walk to get him relaxed for the last leg of the trailer ride. We left for Bromont at midnight and should arrive bright and early Tuesday morning before in-barn inspections start.

I will meet back up with all of you after day one at Bromont. Here’s to a good trip, because as many of us know, getting there can be half the battle!

'We Can All Celebrate Together’: Iron Bridge Hounds Pony Club Brings Home the Victory in USEA IEL Championship

Amidst the unbridled enthusiasm of the USEA Intercollegiate teams competing in this weekend’s USEA Intercollegiate & Interscholastic Eventing Championships at Stable View (Aiken, S.C.), the Interscholastic Eventing League (IEL) riders have held their own with displays of teamwork and horsemanship all weekend long. While all teams put their best foot forward, one team rose above the rest. The Iron Bridge Hounds Pony Club came into the weekend with one goal in mind—to win. They achieved that goal by such a large margin, a little more than 16 points, that they were able to claim the title of champions before their last rider, 16-year-old Claire McMillan, had even left the start box.
