St. Louis is calling! Registration for the 2023 USEA Annual Meeting & Convention opens on Oct. 1, and USEA Members won’t want to miss this jam-packed week of social gatherings and educational activities. This year’s convention will be held on Dec. 7-10, 2023 at the Marriott St. Louis Grand hotel in St. Louis, Missouri.
On October 1, the registration portal will be available through the Convention webpage on USEventing.com. The most cost-effective registration type is a full week pass which gives members access to all open meetings on Thursday through Saturday and includes one ticket to the USEA Annual Meeting of Members Luncheon. Members are encouraged to take advantage of early bird pricing, which is available Oct. 1 through Dec. 5, to get the best deal. Full members can attend all four-days of Convention for the early bird rate of just $275, while Junior and Collegiate Members can attend for only $150.
Not able to attend the whole week? Single day passes are available as well for $175 for Thursday, which includes the Show Jumping Seminar with Chris Barnard and Marc Donovan, $150 for Friday or $175 for Saturday admission. The Board of Governors Meeting on Sunday, Dec. 10 is open to members at no cost.
Registration fees will increase by $15 after the early bird discount expires on Dec. 5, 2023. If you register on-site, a full week pass will be $290 for full members and $175 for Junior and Collegiate members.
Don’t forget to stop by the Area IV Welcome Reception on Friday, Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m. to get a taste of St. Louis! Afterwards, come celebrate the leaderboard champions at all levels of the sport, from Beginner Novice through Advanced, at the Awards Dinner. Tickets to the Awards Dinner can be purchased for one person for $105, a table of 8 people for $840 or a table of 10 people for $1,050.
World-renowned scientist and animal welfare activist, Dr. Temple Grandin, will address the membership as the keynote speaker at the Annual Meeting of Members Luncheon on Saturday, Dec. 9. Throughout her life’s work, Dr. Grandin has pioneered the design of livestock handling facilities with modern methods that improve animal welfare and productivity. She is also a prominent author and speaker on both autism and animal behavior. This keynote address is sure to be a must-attend event! One ticket to the luncheon is included with each full registration, but additional tickets can be purchased for $65 per ticket.
Interested in learning more about show jumping course design? Chris Barnard and Marc Donovan will again host a Show Jumping Building Seminar on Thursday, Dec. 7. Registration for the seminar is included in all full week passes, or interested parties can purchase a single-day pass for Thursday at $175 to attend.
Originally the Slater Hotel, an icon of the St. Louis skyline since the 1900’s, the Marriott St. Louis Grand hotel is a National Historic Landmark that is situated in a prime downtown location near the St. Louis Zoo, City Museum, Busch Stadium, Ballpark Village, and the Gateway Arch. He has recently judged at events like the five-star at the Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event, and he served on the ground jury at the 2022 FEI World Eventing Championships in Pratoni, Italy. His background as a competitor in the Olympic Games riding for Bermuda and as a coach and selector for the Canadian eventing team adds depth to his understanding of the sport.
With a total of 382 volunteer hours in 2024, Catherine “Cathy” Hale not only topped the USEA Area III VIP Volunteer leaderboard, but she also ranked fourth out of all eventing volunteers across the country. Hale (The Villages, Florida) has worked as a travel agent for over 30 years, a career that suits her love of travel nicely. At the time of being interviewed for this article, Hale was passing the equator on a cruise to Tahiti, New Zealand, and Australia.
