Ashley Kehoe & Magic Man (Benny) - a 10-year-old Thoroughbred gelding owned by Kathleen VanderVliet (and originally ridden by Laura VanderVliet, I believe).Poor Ashley's hat tried to make an escape...but she eluded him!Dana Carlin & As Time Goes ByThis was a very pretty 11yo, TB mare, who had some nice moments in her test - don't know much about this pair except that they're from Ontario! Here's Boyd Martin & Bailey Wick (owned by Acorn Hill Farm) - they ended up 8th after dressage with a 53.4.Bailey Wick's a 9yo Irish Sport Horse, sired by Acorn Hill Farm's very own Pallas DigionLooking very studious... (by the way, their determination paid off - they ended up winning the division!)Bobby Costello & Leila Clay's Dustin IV had a very solid test, earning them a 55.6. Unfortunately, they withdrew before XC because of a minor lameness issue. Here's Bob Holman aboard David Lewison's Glendening PhoenixRonald Zabala and Che Mr. Wiseguy finished 2nd with their score of 48.8, holding the lead for most of the day. This horse (owned by Ronald) is gorgeous...so much presence! He's a 10yo Belgian Warmblood. Here is Christa Gandolfo riding Thalia Light, her own 12yo Irish Thoroughbred geldingColleen Loach and Peter Barry's Longfield DougalThese guys had a great test, finishing 6th after posting a very respectable 52.2.Courtney Cooper was all smiles aboard Havasu Canyon. As well she should be! They ended up 5th at the end of the day with a 51.9.One of the crowd favorites (and recent Rolex competitor) Dobbin performed lovely, flowing trotwork for Corinne Ashton. (By the way, they won the Advanced division of the Wellpride USEA AEC last year... fyi :)Their canterwork, unfortunately, wasn't one of their better moments, and Dobbie thought it would be much more fun to be a goober and play around than actually work! Gotta love those redheads! But how can you not love a face like that? Love his whiskers!Kadi Eykamp had two gorgeous horses entered in the division - this was the first, Double Rivers 2 Cool (love her face in this picture!)Handsome! (and a great browband...) Kadi owns his 7yo TB gelding - he performed well, and jumped into the 14th spot with a 56.3This was her second ride - Double Rivers Basil Brush (also a 7yo TB gelding...very similar looking, too!)Looking very pleased with her boy!Doug Payne rode the most amazing gelding - Rocket, an 11yo Danish WB gelding owned by Randy & Cindy CloverThis horse has so much presence in the dressage ring... he literally floated around the ring, but you could tell half his little mind was thinking about cross-country the next day ;)Erika Petersen and her Under the Influence came in at the end of the day and took over the lead - looking very posh and elegant, I might add. This lovely mare earned a 45.3.Erin Renfroe & her Paint/TB cross DeCordova.Molly Rosin & Havarah's Charly (owned by the Minyan Syndicate), a 10yo Hungarian warmbloodMolly seemed very pleased with this lovely, big gelding, as he stepped up into the third position with a 50.6.Jean Rablat & Bellaney Rock (what an interesting little spot on his leg!)Kaitlyn Habermehl & Roux
It's cross-country day at the Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event! Easily the busiest day the Kentucky Horse Park sees each year, make sure to get there early, grab your coffee, and go ensure you get the viewing spot you want for both the CCI4*-S and CCI5*-L divisions today.
Ask any U.S. eventing fan what the biggest day in the sport all year is, and they will most definitely respond with, "cross-country day at Kentucky." Saturday is by far the busiest event, normally averaging around 40,000 people at the Kentucky Horse Park, which is nearly 50% of the event's total ...
