Leesburg, VA – September 25, 2013 – The United States Eventing Association (USEA) and its’ Board of Governors are thrilled to announce a new annual award, named the Presidents’ Trophy in Honor of Jo Whitehouse. The award will be presented to the top-placing Preliminary horse at the Nutrena USEA American Eventing Championships (AEC) who is a graduate of the Young Event Horse program.
Jo Whitehouse, CEO of USEA, has worked for USEA for 25 years. She has been a passionate supporter of eventing and was instrumental in pushing the Young Event Horse program forward.
Brian Sabo, current USEA president, said “Nothing can be more fitting than to recognize her efforts to promote and develop the Young Event Horse program. We wanted to recognize her vision of promoting breeding and young event horse development in the U.S.”
The USEA Young Event Horse program gives owners and breeders the opportunity to showcase the eventing potential of their four- and five-year-old horses. One goal of the program is to encourage breeders to produce top-level event horses for the future. Young Event Horse classes are typically held in conjunction with horse trials, and include conformation, dressage and jumping sections.
Kevin Baumgardner, past president of the USEA, said, “For so long she has been our champion. She is the glue that held the USEA and, in many ways, the sport of eventing together. We thought it was important to champion our champion.”
