NAJYRC: Meet The CICY** Teams

The Adequan/FEI North American Junior and Young Rider Championships, presented by Gotham North (NAJYRC) begins this week at the Colorado Horse Park. Young riders from around the country have traveled the Parker, Colo. for their chance to earn gold for their respective areas. Because of the number of entries, riders from each area were combined into teams based on a random draw. Meet the two-star teams:

Area V & IX

  • Clara Cargile and John and Nancy Cargile’s White Indian (White Clover x Indian Kitt), a 16-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding. These two should feel very comfortable at the Colorado Horse Park as they won the CIC** at this venue last month. This pair is making their second NAJYRC appearance after finishing third in the CH-J* in 2014.
  • Alyssa Phillips and her own Bliss III (Corland x Lenja), a 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare. These two also rode at NAJYRC in 2014 and this spring have had many top finishes at the Advanced level.
  • Madeline Backus and her own P.S. Arianna (Ibsen x Amazing Raven), a 15-year-old Anglo-Trakehner mare. This will be the third NAJYRC for Backus and P.S. Arianna, they competed in the CCI* in 2011 and 2014.

Area III & IV

  • Zoe Crawford and her own K.E.C. Zara (Aldatus Z x Puissance Flight), a 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare. This year they have achieved two top 15 placings in CIC** competitions as well as a top twenty finish at the Ocala Horse Properties CCI** in April.
  • Lydia Kennedy and Double Dare (Silver Charm x Do It), her 12-year-old Thoroughbred gelding. These two had a top five finish at the CHC International at Chattahoochee Hills this spring along with a top twenty placing at the CIC** at Poplar Place Farm.
  • Elena Hengel and Say I Do or Zipp. Hengel and Say I Do (Obos Quality x Fruit and Nut) her 12-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding, won their last Intermediate outing at Roebke’s Run, and she and Zipp (Cavalier x L. Gladys H), her 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding finished in second in the same division. Hengle may only compete one horse, and may choose after the first horse inspection.

Area VI & VIII

  • Josey Thompson and Pistol Annie (Rivival x Gallant Rose), her 8-year-old Holsteiner mare. This pair finished fifth at the CIC** at Copper Meadows last month and had many top ten placings at Intermediate this spring.
  • Woods Baughman and his and James Baughman’s Montesquieu (Maria’s Man x Incredulous), a 9-year-old Thoroughbred gelding. They have picked up a few top ten placings at the Intermediate and Preliminary levels this spring in preparation.
  • Chelsea Kolman and Dauntless Courage (Sheikh’s Legacy x 101), her 9-year-old Canadian Sport Horse. This pair moved up to the Intermediate level last fall and have had a lot successes at the level including a win at the Rocking Horse Winter II.
  • Margaret Ragan her own Surefire’s Anwar (Star Trace x Molly), an 11-year-old Thoroughbred/Holsteiner. These two moved up to Intermediate this spring picking up top fifteen placings at The Maryland Horse Trials and Loudoun Hunt Pony Club H.T.

Competitors will have their first horse inspection today at the Colorado Horse Park. Stay tuned for coverage from the USEA this weekend!
