NAJYRC: Meet The CH-J* Teams

The Adequan/FEI North American Junior and Young Rider Championships, presented by Gotham North (NAJYRC) begins this week at the Colorado Horse Park. Young riders from around the country have traveled the Parker, Colo. for their chance to earn gold for their respective areas. Meet the one-star teams:

Area I

  • Cornelia Dorr and her own Sir Patico MH (Sempatico M x Queen’s Lite xx), a 10-year-old Sweibrucker gelding. This pair won the Junior Young Rider Preliminary division at Sporting Days this spring, finished on their dressage score at the Carolina International CIC*.
  • Eliza Eddy and Jannifer Eddy’s LVS Jackson, an 8-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding by Jack of Diamond. One of the greener pairs, they had a top ten finish in the Preliminary Rider division at Carolina International this spring and a second place run in the Open Preliminary at Kind Oak in May.
  • Erica Jarrell and her own and Brenda H. Jarrell’s Uni Sprite (Brynarian Brenin AP Maldwyn x Better B’ Leavin), an 11-year-old Welsh Cob x TB. Jarrell had a top ten finish at the Fair Hill International CIC* this spring and then won the Open Preliminary at King Oak Horse Trials in May.
  • Madeline Lichten and her own Yarrow (Yvari x Amelia II), a 9-year-old Canadian Sport Horse. This pair look to continue their smashing 2015 where they finished in the top ten at the Virginia Horse Trials CCI* and won the Open Preliminary at Seneca Valley Pony Club.
  • Katie Lichten and Harold Litchen’s RF Luminati (Branach x Concha), a 10-year-old Hanoverian gelding. This pair represented Area I at NAJYRC in 2015, finishing on their dressage score for 8th place. This spring they won the Carolina International CIC* and came in second at the Fair Hill CIC*.
  • Haley Rosenberg and Sandra Holden’s Evil Munchkin (Clearway x Ortega I), a 13-year-old Holsteiner gelding. This horse is making a repeat appearance at the Young Rider Championship. He finished second in the CH-J* in 2011 with Sable Giesler, and completed the two-star there in 2012. They head to Colorado with a win in the Fair Hill International Horse Trials Preliminary this April among many other top five finishes.

Area II / Area IX Combined Team

  • Elle Dembosky (Area II) and her own This Bid’s For You (Winning Bid x Games For Me), a 12-year-old Thoroughbred gelding. This pair moved up to the Preliminary level this spring and completed their first CCI* at Bromont last month.
  • Alexa Lapp (Area II) and Jennie Brannigan’s Paprika (Shadow Show x Nifty), an 11-year-old Thoroughbred mare. These two began their partnership together this spring and completed their first CCI* at Virginia Horse Trials in May on a double clear cross-country ride.
  • Tayler Stewart (Area II) and her own Idea Contini (Contini x Hauptstutbuch Reviera Wonder), a 13-year-old Wetphalian gelding. These two head to Colorado with several top ten finishes at Preliminary and a fifth place finish at the Virginia Horse Trials CCI* earlier this summer.
  • Ryleigh Leavitt (Area IX) and her own Moonlight Crush (Oh Babu Bertus x Artful Dancer), a 9-year-old Dutch Warmblood Gelding. This pair is from Colorado, and have experience at the Colorado Horse Park most recently finishing sixth in the Open Preliminary there last month.

Area III

  • Haley Curry and her own Resolute Protector (Orbis x Tochar House), a 14-year-old Irish Sport Horse. They have several top five finishes at the Preliminary level this year, and they finished second at the Poplar Place Farm CIC* in March.
  • Mikensey Johansen and her own Grey Prince (Stormin Fever x Minicolony), a 9-year-old Thoroughbred. This will be Johansen’s second year, she completed the CH-J* last year on her own Exterminator.
  • Emma Keller and her own Take It To The Max, a 13-year-old Welsh gelding. This pair had a top ten finish at their first CIC* at Poplar Place Farm in March and just had a third place finish on their dressage score at River Glen H.T. last month.
  • Parker Miller and her own What Law, an 11-year-old Irish Sport Horse by Mill Law. In their short partnership, they have made huge strides including winning their first Preliminary at Ocala Horse Properties International in April and finishing third at the Virginia Horse Trials CCI* in May.
  • Carson Richards and Clara Richards' Fernhill Mr. Cool, a 7-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding. This pair moved up to Preliminary this spring, and finished their first CCI* in Ocala where they only added one rail to their dressage score.

Area IV

  • Emma Fettig and Spanning the Globe (Greenwood Lake x Shock me Forever), her 11-year-old Thoroughbred gelding. These two have had several top five finishes at Preliminary and earned fifth place at the Hagyard Midsouth Three-Day Event last fall, finishing on their dressage score.
  • Lily Geelan and Luksor (Ef Ez x Lektura), a 13-year-old Polish Warmblood owned by her and Mary Beth Geelan. This pair have never had a jump penalty on cross-country, and they head to Colorado after a top ten finish at the Carolina International CIC* and a third place finish at Roebke’s Run CIC* last month.
  • Ellis Rold and her own Fernhill Spring Lightly (Cut the Mustard x Coolgrange Tingo), a 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding. They most recently won the CCI* at Virginia Horse Trials in May.
  • Makenna Rold and her own Fernhill Imperial (Ricardo Z x Valleporcina), a 9-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding. This pair won the Junior Young Rider Open Preliminary at the Virginia Horse Trials in May and went on to win the CIC* at Roebke’s Run last month.

Area V

  • Frances Littlejohn and her own Hector, a 13-year-old Thoroughbred gelding. They will find themselves in familiar territory as they had a top ten finish in the CCI* at the Colorado Horse Park last month.
  • Heather Morris and Jos UFO De Quidam (Lobby Des Fortes x Remonta Guinea), her 8-year-old Argentine Silla gelding. This pair has had many top five placings at Preliminary including a second at the Texas Rose Horse Park H.T. in June.
  • Anna Pierce and Dignitarian (Secret Claim x Creoles Classy Act), a 13-year-old Thoroughbred gelding. They picked up a win at MeadowCreek park this spring along with several other top ten placings at Preliminary.
  • Cassidy Snyder and Flagmount’s Celtic Rose (Flagmount’s Freedom x Velma), her 13-year-old Irish Sport Horse. They head to Colorado after a successful year at Preliminary, picking up a second place finish at Feather Creek Farm in March and a fifth place finish at Texas Rose Horse Park in June.
  • Arden Stephens and Ultra T (Ustinov x Wiriomf), her own 8-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding. These two moved up to Preliminary after winning the Junior Training division at the 2015 Nutrena American Eventing Championships, most recently finishing second at Chattahoochee Hills earlier this month.
  • Dresden Sutherland and Mark Sutherland’s Fernhill Royal Decree (Lascadell x Salamandra), a 9-year-old Wielskapolska gelding. They made their FEI debut at the Colorado Horse Park last month with a double clear cross-country round.

Area VI

  • Sami Clark and Next Dance (Cupidon x Dancing Nuage), her 15-year-old Selle Francais mare. This pair picked up a win in the Preliminary Rider division at Galway Downs earlier this year before securing a top fifteen finish at the Twin Rivers CCI*.
  • Mia Farley and her own Fernhill Fine Diamond (Jacomar x Camacazy Diamond), an 8-year-old Irish Sport Horse Mare. They head to Colorado after winning the Open Intermediate at Copper Meadows in June.
  • Kelsey Holmes and NZB The Chosen One (All in One x Pramina xx), her 10-year-old Hanoverian gelding. They had two FEI top ten placings this year so far.
  • Claire Poch and Laura Poch’s Carrot Cake, a 12-year-old Thoroughbred mare. They have top ten finishes from every event they’ve visited this year including the CCI* at Twin Rivers and the Preliminary Rider division at Woodside in May.
  • Megan Traynham and her own Lord Lombardi, an 8-year-old Holsteiner gelding. These two finished second out of 51 starters at Galway Downs last fall, and this year have picked up several top ten placings at both the Preliminary and Intermediate levels.
  • Delaney Vaden and Redrox Jazzman (Budlite x Jiwani Dancer), her 12-year-old American Warmblood gelding. They won their last two events at the Preliminary level.

Area VIII

  • Alexandra Baugh and Altorac Farm’s Ballingowan Pizazz (Maire Ni Raghallaigh x Obos Quality), a 14-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding. This pair won their last events at the Intermediate/Preliminary level at Midsouth Pony Club H.T. and they also had a top ten finish at the Ocala Horse Properties International 3-Day CCI* earlier this year.
  • Lee Camiolo and her own Caharron V.E. (Cimarron x V.E. Nokia), a 10-year-old Holsteiner gelding. They had a sixth place finish at the CCI* in the Ocala Horse Properties Three-Day this spring as well as many top ten Preliminary finishes.
  • Jordan Duffett and Helen Helton’s Mainway’s Dry Ice (Chairlift x Mary from Morroe), a 20-year-old Irish Sport Horse. Duffett got the ride this spring, so the partnership is new, but they have picked up three top ten placings at Preliminary so far.
  • Brenna Macleod and Peddler’s Dream (Pembroke x Diamond Dream), her 13-year-old Thoroughbred gelding. This pair made their Preliminary and CCI* debuts together this year with several top twenty placings.
  • Liza Ragan and her own The Perfect Storm MK (Comet Shine x Danse Don’t Flight), a 15-year-old Thoroughbred gelding. Most recently this pair has two third place finishes at The Maryland Horse Trials and River Glen.
  • Nila Sabet and Carolyne Wheeler’s Isabel (Shanawi x Pomaria), a 13-year-old Thoroughbred mare. These two have had several top five finishes at Preliminary this year, including a win at Honey Run H.T. in June.

The CH-J* competitors will have their first horse inspection tomorrow and begin the competition with dressage on Friday. Stay tuned to meet the CICY** entries!

USEF Announces Host of the 2026-2027 USEF Eventing Young Rider Championships

The U.S. Equestrian Federation is pleased to announce that the Maryland International and Horse Trials at Loch Moy Farm in Adamstown, Maryland, has been chosen as the host of the 2026-2027 USEF Eventing Young Rider Championships (CCIJ1*-Intro, CCIYJ2*-S, CCIU253*-S). The championships will be held on June 25-28, 2026, and June 24-27, 2027.
