B.W. Furlong and Associates are delighted to announce that they are sponsoring the inaugural Jersey Fresh “High Performance Challenge”. Intended to promote the sport of eventing in the state of New Jersey and encourage horses and riders to move up the ranks of the sport, the winner of the challenge will claim a $25,000 prize, awarded to the horse and rider combination that wins the Jersey Fresh CCI2* in 2011 and goes on to win the Jersey Fresh CCI3* in 2012.

Held at the Horse Park of New Jersey every June, the Jersey Fresh three-day event is the premier eventing competition in the state of New Jersey, USA. B.W. Furlong and Associates are proud to be associated with this competition and believe it to be a good stepping-stone to international level success.

A high performance equine veterinary practice based in Oldwick, New Jersey, B.W. Furlong and Associates have strong ties to the eventing community and the Jersey Fresh three-day event. The practice has sponsored the horse ambulance every year and provides breakfast for the competitors in a tent each morning, but this is the first time that they have provided prize money.

The cash prize will be awarded fifty percent (50%) to the owner and fifty percent (50%) to the rider of the winning horse upon completing the “High Performance Challenge”. The owner of the horse may change from year to year but the horse and rider combination must remain the same. B.W. Furlong and Associates hope to continue this award for successive CCI**/CCI*** Jersey Fresh competitions.

Dr. Brendan Furlong, MRCVS, said, “I practice in New Jersey and I’d like to keep the event going. I’d like to keep horses competing at Jersey Fresh instead of going off to Bromont, so we thought we’d offer a little incentive – nothing against Bromont, but we’d like to promote entries in New Jersey too. You can’t have three-star horses without two-star horses, so this is also some incentive to keep them moving up the ranks. When we think about how eventing in America really almost started in New Jersey around Gladstone, and Essex used to be such a big deal, we want to see it keep going in our state.”
