Girl Power: Fillies Dominate at the 2014 FEH East Coast Championship

By USEA | November 3, 2014

Leesburg, Va. – The United States Eventing Association’s (USEA) Future Event Horse (FEH) 2014 East Coast Championship took place at Loch Moy Farm in Adamstown, Maryland, on November 2. Thirty-two fillies, colts, and geldings competed in their respective age divisions to vie for the East Coast FEH Grand Champion Title.

The windy environment forced the competition to be moved into the covered arena at Loch Moy Farm, which provided some relief from the chilly conditions. Despite the weather, the young horses appeared in top form, and behaved in a very adult manner for their classes.

The day began with the three-year old fillies, followed by the three-year old colts/geldings. The overall winner of the three-year-olds thoroughly impressed judges Robin Walker and Debbie Adams. A Dutch Warmblood filly owned and bred by Ms. Jacqueline Mars and handled by James Houston, Landmark’s Artemis (ROC USA – Sunset Paradise), was crowned the three-year-old champion.

After a brief lunch break, the day continued on with the two-year-old classes. A lovely Hanoverian filly by Escudo II, out of Milwaukee’s Finest, came out on top as the two-year-old overall Champion. Ever So Clever GRF, owned and bred by Tracy Wagner and presented by Vanessa Huskic was a striking winner that stole the day, later obtaining the overall title of 2014 FEH East Coast Grand Champion.

At the end of the day, yet another filly won an age group Champion title; Hanoverian filly Maybe Magic C (Mighty Magic – Winter Morning) was crowned the Yearling Champion. The yearling filly was handled by Klaus Schengber and owned and bred by Laurie Cameron.

Once the final age group class was pinned, the top two horses from each age division (yearlings, 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds) were asked to come back in the arena for the 2014 FEH East Coast Grand Champion class. Five horses were presented, and the competitor who struck the judges most was the two-year-old winner Ever So Clever GRF. The filly was crowned the 2014 FEH East Coast Grand Champion, and yearling winner Maybe Magic C was crowned the 2014 FEH East Coast Reserve Champion.

The USEA “Born in America” special award was then presented to the highest scoring horse that is North American bred; Overall Reserve Champion, Laurie Cameron’s Maybe Magic C, took home this honor as well.

The USEA would like to thank the 2014 FEH East Coast judges Robin Walker and Debbie Adams, as well as Loch Moy Farm and their wonderful volunteers! The USEA would also like to congratulate all the breeders, owners, handlers, and all those involved in producing the fine horses that attended the 2014 FEH East Coast Championship.
