By John Strassburger - Press Release

Temecula, Calif., Oct. 27, 2014—Whether you love a good scare, a good meal, or a good tune, you’ll find something to love at the Galway Downs International Three-Day Event—in addition to plenty of great horses.

The highlight of the weekend’s festivities is the equine competition, as top human and equine athletes from around the country compete for $30,000 in prize money. But there’s much more than just horses to see and do at Galway Downs.

To start, there’s the feasting, as popular gourmet food trucks from around the Inland Empire will be on site to please the pickiest of palates. Chop Soo-ey has a menu to please all lovers of Asian Fusion street food, while Ms. Patty Melt offers classic fare such as patty melts, burgers and sandwiches with a modern California twist. Two For The Road’s menu features East Coast specialties such a lobster rolls, crab cakes and other fresh ocean fare, paired with vintage sodas, sides, and even Whoopee Pies flown in from Maine. Rounding out the gastronomic tour will be the famous Super Q, which brings the flavors of North Carolina, Texas and St. Louis style flavors to a variety of modern barbeque dishes.

Once your belly is full, you can relax with one of the many musical acts that will be around throughout the weekend. Local folk hero Lee Koch will be playing the opening reception and dinner on Oct. 29, while Guilty Conscience will be playing the big party on Nov. 1. Whether you love feel-good tunes of yesterday, or modern classics, this local institution has something for everyone.

Throughout out the day on Saturday Nov. 1, several acts will play throughout the cross-country competition. James Wells can be found at the Tower over looking the course, while Tim Walsh will be playing in the Barn. Larry Thompson will be at the Beer Garden, where you can grab a cold brew and enjoy his singing and guitar playing.

But it’s also the season for spooks and scares, so on Halloween night Galway Downs will offer up a Haunted Horse Afterparty! A haunted house, a haunted hayride, food vendors, full bar, dancing, along with a costume and scream contest are sure to please even the grouchiest ghoul.

Competition at Galway Downs will kick off on Wednesday with the dressage phase for the USEA West Coast Young Event Horse Championships for 4- and 5-year-olds. The YEH Championship horses will perform their jumping phase on Thursday, when the Training Level Three-Day Event and the CCI2* will also perform their dressage tests.

On Friday, the Training Level Three-Day Event will tackle the challenges of the cross-country course, while the CCI1* and CCI3* perform their dressage tests. Saturday is cross-country day for all three CCI divisions, and the day will conclude with show jumping for the Training Level Three-Day Event. The CCI divisions wrap up the weekend on Sunday with the climactic show jumping phase.
