The FEI World Eventing Championships kick off tomorrow in Aachen, Germany, and we’ve rounded up everything you need to know from schedules (and time conversions!), competitor information, livestream details, and more in this edition of Fast Facts.

The Field:

• As of Aug. 10, there are 88 entries which include riders competing for their nation on a team of four or as individuals.
• The Defender U.S. Eventing Squad team members are as follows:
  • Will Coleman (Ocala, Fla.) and Diabolo, a 14-year-old Holsteiner gelding (Diarado x Roulett M) owned by the Diabolo Group, and cared for by Erin Jarboe
  • Phillip Dutton (West Grove, Pa.) and Denim, a 11-year-old Holsteiner gelding (Dinken x Celia II) owned by Anne Jones, Ann Lapides, Caroline Moran, and Neill Sites, and cared for by Emma Yanek
  • Boyd Martin (Cochranville, Pa.) and Cooley Nutcracker, a 12-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding (BMC Tolan R. x Ballyshan Cleopatra) owned by Liz’s Nutcrackers, and cared for by Stephanie Simpson
  • Caroline Pamukcu (Springfield, Pa.) and HSH Blake, an 11-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding (BMC Tolan R x Doughiska Lass) owned by Mollie Hoff, Sherrie Martin, Caroline Pamukcu, and Deniz Pamukcu, and cared for by Chloe Teahan
    
  • Tamie Smith (Murietta, Calif.) and Lillet 3, a 10-year-old Holsteiner mare (SIEC Livello x Princess L) owned by Molly and Jennifer Duda, and cared for by Savannah Gwin
• The nations fielding teams at the championships include Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, the Czech Republic, France, Great Britain, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Switzerland, Sweden, and the United States.
• Those nations with individual representation only are Canada, Denmark, Spain, Finland, Hungary, India, Morocco, Poland, Thailand, and Turkey.

• The Holsteiner and the Dutch Warmblood are the most popular field in this year's representation with 13 horses each.
• One Thoroughbred, New Zealand-bred Artist (Guillotine x Maxamore), owned and ridden by Monica Spencer (NZL), will compete.
• Of the riders, there are 50 men and 38 women competing.
• The oldest rider is Australia's Andrew Hoy at the age of 67.
• Meanwhile the youngest is 21-year-old Splinter Bergsma who rides for the Netherlands.

• Popular sires amongst this year's field include Diarado (5), Tolan R (3), and Jaguar Mail (3).
  • Fun fact, Will Coleman's entry Diabolo is by Diarado and two U.S. entries are by Tolan R: Boyd Martin's ride Cooley Nutcracker and Caroline Pamukcu's partner HSH Blake.

• There is a five-way tie for the most senior horse in the field between Fluorescent Adolescent (CAN), SS Eight Count (AUS), fischerChipmunk FRH (GER), Grandeur de Lully CH (SUI), and Hippo’s Sapporo TSF (SWE). Each of these horses is still competing at the top level of the sport at 18-years-old.
• There are two 9-year-olds in the field, Mellevue van Rechteren (CZE) and Ragdoll de Temise (BEL), who are the youngest horses competing.

The Facts:

• The President of the Ground Jury is Anne Mette-Biner (DEN), assisted by Peter Gray (USA) and Joanne Jarden (IRE).
• Caroline Farwick (GER) was appointed Chief Steward.
• Serving as the Technical Delegate is Philip Surl (GBR). He will be assisted by Mathias Otto-Erley (GER).
• The cross-country course has been designed by Italy’s Guiseppe della Chiesa. He is assisted by Marcin Konarski (POL).
• The show jumping course will be designed by Frank Rothenberger (GER)

The Format

A team consists of three to four riders. If there are four riders on a team, there is a drop score. Each country can enter up to five riders, with one riding as an individual. Countries unable to send a team can enter up to two individual riders.
