Fast Facts: 2021 Stable View 1/2/3/4*

By Jessica Duffy - USEA Staff

Stable View has been running FEI levels since 2018 at their Oktoberfest event at the end of September. This year is the first year they will also offer FEI levels in the spring – this week, Stable View will run CCI1*-S, CCI2*-S, and CCI3*-S, and CCI4*-S divisions and host the first Adequan/USEF Youth Team Challenge of the year.

The Field

The 199 entries at Stable View are divided up between the CCI4*-S, CCI3*-S, CCI2*-S, and CCI1*-S.
  • With 55 starters in the CCI4*-S, this is the largest four-star division the U.S. has seen so far this spring.
  • This is also the largest CCI1* to take place in the U.S. since the level was introduced, drawing 18 entries.
  • The disruption of the 2020 competition season due to the COVID-19 pandemic means that several horses in the field, although they have prior experience at the Advanced/four-star level, are making their first outing at the CCI4* level in over a year: Atlantic Domino, Ballingowan Zeal, Business Class, Delux Z, Fernhill Limited Edition, Mettraise, Riviera Lu, Morswood, Truly Wiley, Unmarked Bills, and Victor B Z.
  • In addition, we have some newbies to the CCI4*-S level this weekend: Cooley Be Cool, Electric Lux, Global EX, Highly Suspicious, Monbeg Myth, and Moonlight Crush.
  • The lowest finishing score in a CCI4*-S at Stable View is a 29.3, scored by Elisabeth Halliday-Sharp and Fernhill By Night at the Oktoberfest event last fall. Will someone best that score this weekend?
  • Z won the Stable View CCI4*-S with Phillip Dutton in the irons in October 2019 and is the only previous winner of a Stable View CCI4*-S entered this weekend. Could the pair claim a second Stable View CCI4*-S title?

  • Four horses competing this weekend have already secured blue ribbons at the Advanced/four-star level in 2021: FE Lifestyle, ridden by Jennie Brannigan, was first in the Advanced at Red Hills International; RF Scandalous, ridden by Marilyn Little, was first in the CCI4*-S at Red Hills International; Trendy Fernhill, ridden by Jenny Caras, was first in the Advanced at Pine Top; and Carlevo, ridden by Buck Davidson, was first in the Advanced at Rocking Horse.
  • In fact, Carlevo has won both of the events he’s competed in so far this year, winning the Intermediate at Rocking Horse I and the Advanced at Rocking Horse II. Will he add a third blue ribbon to his tally for 2021?
  • Hallie Coon and Buck Davidson will both be busy this weekend with five rides each. While Coon’s are spread out over the divisions – one in the CCI4*-S, two in the CCI3*-S, and two in the CCI2*-S – all five of Davidson’s rides are in the CCI4*-S: Carlevo, Erroll Gobey, Jak My Style, Sorocaima, and Victor B Z.
  • In addition to Davidson, Phillip Dutton, Elisabeth Halliday-Sharp, Jennie Brannigan, Jacob Fletcher, Nilson Moreira da Silva, Jennie Jarnstrom-Dennis, and Allie Knowles all have multiple rides in the CCI4*-S, making up just over 30 percent of the division.
  • Riders representing the United States, Canada, Brazil, and New Zealand will compete in the CCI4*-S this weekend.

For the CCI3*-S, Wayne Quarles (USA) and Sara Miller Leary (USA) make up the ground jury, and the CCI2*-S ground jury includes Amanda Miller (USA) and Beth Wheeler (USA). • Stable View is hosting the first Adequan/USEF Youth Team Challenge of the year. Competitors in the challenge may compete in the CCI*-S, CCI2*-S, or CCI3*-S.
  • No spectators will be allowed at Stable View and the event will be observing the USEF COVID-19 Action Plan guidelines and procedures. All those present on-site are asked to wear a mask at all times.
  • The CCI4*-S division is a qualifier for the $60,000 Adequan USEA Advanced Final that will take place at the USEA American Eventing Championships presented by Nutrena Feeds in August.
